Impossible Worlds

Impossible Worlds

A Poem by John Fitzgerald

I will hold this empty space
for you in my heart.

I will keep this impossible world contained,
Until my mind becomes attuned to reality
Without you.

Maybe there’s a platonic ordering to the world
That dwells in a realm of forms,
So that my internal mechanisms can run
Like there’s no ghost in the machine.

I will rely on a contingent series
Of cause and effect,
Until everything goes quiet
and the laws of love finally fail.

Brilliantly composed, John. Made me a little green with envy. But I loved it!

Thank you again. This was a painful one to write but, like you say, it makes for poetry!
