Ciphers of the Heart

Ciphers of the Heart

A Poem by I Shred This Cabbage

If only I
Could feel the things
I wish that I could feel again,
I would kneel at your altar and wish away your pain,
And I would cry again when I hear your name.

And now a gentle shadow moves across the wall
I pretend it’s you and you’re not really gone.
But the cipher of your heart was never mine to solve,
No, not at all.

If only I
Could I wouldn’t try to change
what I know we could never really hope to change.

Now there’s things we feel no one would dare explain
With ciphers of the heart.

And I can feel you pulling me back again.
Into this world we’re born, never to be born again,
And never to be held again
By ciphers of the heart.

My soul starts to wander as you run away
In search of you,
And there’s really nothing I can do.

It ascends on me, and it descends for you.

But If only I
Could see the truth,
The afterlife is only there to forgive you.
