A Pot of Flowers

A Pot of Flowers

A Poem by Colton Bose
"

A story of a girl

"

Morning, spring, rain
a pot of flowers
roses and tulips
all from the garden
sits on her dresser
where she lies alone
staring out the window

Daytime, summer, rainbow
a pot of flowers
roses and tulips
all from the garden
sits on her dresser
next to the bed
a gift from a man
whom she now lays with
staring into each other's eyes

Evening, fall, overcast
a pot of flowers
roses and tulips
all from the garden
sits on her dresser
next to the bed
where she lies in tears
with no man, no love
and two pink lines

Night, winter, moonless
a pot of flowers
wilted and dead
all from the garden
sits on her dresser
next to the bed
where she lies alone
after paying a bill
to keep it that way

This poem sort of exude personal deep thoughts. It seems as though she was alone and destitute. So she sleeps with a guy who lends a hand. Then she finds herself alone again and having to fend for herself. Like the flowers she too is no longer beautiful like the flowers. Her heart/soul is dead and wilted. That is the impression i got. However, that is the beauty of poetry. There can always be more than one meaning. Overall, I liked the poem a lot because it forced me to read it twice and think. Good job! I look forward to reading more of your work. Keep exercising your wonderful gift!

Amazing how you kept coming back to the flowers who represented the character and love of the woman. The flowers seem stationary in the beginning even through the heart ache. However at the end, as if the woman's soul has broken so had the life of the flowers. Remarkable.
