Christmas is all a LieA Poem by Liam RileyOnce upon a Christmas Eve
The children waited to receive.
Once upon a Christmas night
The children slept without a fight.
But what if on that snowy day,
No gifts or presents were astray.
What if no boxes, nor any bags
Were present, not a single tag
Old Saint Nick is no hero
If he teaches greed and ego.
Should we spend our lives away,
Giving store bought love today?
The repercussions break and destroy,
Country’s economy and who they employ.
Until we can open everyone’s eyes
Christmas day will stay a lie
There’ll be no present, gifts, or toys
For many and many girls and boys.
But yet the day will still go on,
And we will live to see the dawn
The picture of a Christmas tree
With all the gifts, and all the glee.
Is made up by company owners,
Hoping to salvage easy dollars
But now the plan is a social norm,
We shop and buy and conform.
But we don’t need to spend a lot,
To get the Christmas we forgot.
Go and see your aunt or uncle,
Instead of asking for a bundle.
Do not ask for things you don’t need,
Instead help out those who a desperate and plead.
Christmas is a time for joy,
Not a time you to annoy.
Watch yourself, and give to others,
The reward is more sincere then wrappers. © 2008 Liam RileyFeatured Review
