Christmas is all a Lie

Christmas is all a Lie

A Poem by Liam Riley

Once upon a Christmas Eve
The children waited to receive.
Once upon a Christmas night
The children slept without a fight.

But what if on that snowy day,
No gifts or presents were astray.
What if no boxes, nor any bags
Were present, not a single tag

Old Saint Nick is no hero
If he teaches greed and ego.
Should we spend our lives away,
Giving store bought love today?

The repercussions break and destroy,
Country’s economy and who they employ.
Until we can open everyone’s eyes
Christmas day will stay a lie

There’ll be no present, gifts, or toys
For many and many girls and boys.
But yet the day will still go on,
And we will live to see the dawn

The picture of a Christmas tree
With all the gifts, and all the glee.
Is made up by company owners,
Hoping to salvage easy dollars

But now the plan is a social norm,
We shop and buy and conform.
But we don’t need to spend a lot,
To get the Christmas we forgot.

Go and see your aunt or uncle,
Instead of asking for a bundle.
Do not ask for things you don’t need,
Instead help out those who a desperate and plead.

Christmas is a time for joy,
Not a time you to annoy.
Watch yourself, and give to others,

The reward is more sincere then wrappers.

I absolutely loved this poem. So many people in this worls are so greedy and cannot wait until Christmas time comes so they can get presents and money. Instead of looking forward only for the fake and useless stuff try looking forward to actually being alive another year for Christmas. I cannot wait to show other people this poem. I highly agree with it and I cannot wait to read more of your writing. If the rest of your writing is as good as this then you are one damn good author.

fantastic writing. it all flowed nicely. All you said is very true. I just like getting with my family on christmas day, everyone makes an effort to be nice even if they dont get on. Even with gifts, i dont care about what i get but i love the thought that goes into them. i think christmas is just a gimmick, one of my best Christmas's was helping at an elderly person christmas lunch on christmas day, when otherwise they would have family of friends but being there for them to talk and laugh with.

Well said! Especially in today's world of receive first, ask questions later, this was well said and necessary! Good write......
