Miss Conduct Interview for Plugged In.

Miss Conduct Interview for Plugged In.

A Story by ShortBreadInc

Pop punk sensations Miss Conduct have, over the past few months, become one of the biggest acts to hit the UK. With singer Kim Waterson, who joined only last year, completing the line-up with her quirky dress sense, upbeat attitude and seducing good looks, it’s only a matter of time before they achieve worldwide success.

Since 2001 these guys have been creating a new and unique sound that they themselves believe to be something that stands out from the crowd. But with only 3 members to begin with they knew they’d never get very far without a unique voice to pair with their music. After a long search for a singer and with another guitarist in tow, Then Came Bronson as they were formally known, were officially Miss Conduct and ready to show the world what they could do.

They're in the middle of their full UK tour, playing many different venues and winning more and more hearts every night. After so much happening for them in just a year, I sat down with the band to have a lovely little chat about how much fun they’ve been having and why it’s never good to mix up your shaving foam with your deodorant.

Until last year you were an amazing band with no singer. How did Kim come about joining up with you guys?

It was actually at The Full Ponty last year. I(Kim) was handing out demos hoping to find a band to join up with. I gave these guys a demo, they liked my voice and it just really went from there.

March 19th of this year saw your album “Sinner Vs Sinned” being released. What inspired you to write the songs on the album?

Everything’s gone so fast since we’ve been signed to Visible Noise. We’ve been on tour like crazy and writing the album was so much fun. It was all about taking it in our stride and giving off a positive energy. We don’t want to give out or take in any negative vibes so its all about having fun and taking everything as best you can.

It’s a real party-rock album that you can just dance and have fun to. We want the people listening to our music to have as much fun listening as we do writing and performing the songs.

You’re in the middle of a UK tour that’s taken you to just about every corner of the continent. How much fun is it being on tour and playing different places nearly every night?

Its amazing fun, but it does depend on the place you play what reaction you get from the crowd. Some places we’ve played have been really boring and hardly anybody’s turned up. But you’ve just got to take it and give it your best no matter what.

We’ve been headlining every show we’ve played and had local bands supporting us, so it’s kinda hard making new friends every day but it’s amazing for us to have the chance to do this. We’ve had such a crazy time and you can never have enough shows to play so we’re just grateful that we’re having the chance to do it.

It’s so much fun just being around eachother all the time and having a laugh, so it’s not just the shows that make it fun. It’s not so much when you can’t shower for a few days though and have to resort to using a disgusting amount of deodorant. Or when you get confused and use deodorant instead of shaving foam and end up with a face full of it, or use shaving foam instead of deodorant and end up with white foam all down you.

(At this point in the interview the drummer has jumped up from where he was sitting on the floor and legged it out of the room screaming. As all of us look around in amusement and wonder, someone murmurs “It wasn’t a spider, only a bit of fluff.” Cue hysterical laughing for the next 10 minutes)

How does it feel performing in front of different people all the time unsure of whether they’ll appreciate your unique sound?

We don’t really mind. When we get up on stage we go up there to have fun, give it all we’ve got and do what we want. (Kim) goes crazy and runs around the stage like a loon and we all just have fun, dance and if the crowd like us then its just an awesome feeling, if not at least we had fun.

The Full Ponty’s coming up in a few weeks and you’re playing the Main Stage. Are you looking forward to it?

Yeah! Its going to be so much fun ‘cause only last year we were all looking for eachother there to become a band so for us to be playing this year, especially on the Main Stage its absolutely crazy. It’s a day we’re all really looking forward to, we cant wait.

What’s the next thing for you guys? Plans for the future…?

Well we’ve just released the album and got a video on Scuzz and Kerrang! TV now for “Sinner Vs Sinned” so for now its just gig and tour like crazy now. We’re going to start writing the next album soon and we’ve got the Full Ponty to look forward to so we’re going to be busy having loads of fun.

Well that’s my time well spent with these crazy arachnophobic, deodorant-in-your-face rock stars in the making. Make sure you check them out because you really don’t know what you’re missing until you’ve heard them.

*The new album “Sinner Vs Sinned” available now.

New single “Sinner Vs Sinned” also out now and video appearing on Scuzz and Kerrang! TV.

Playing the Full Ponty Festival Main Stage 26th May.
