As I stand outside

As I stand outside

A Poem by Shivan Reaper

As I stand outside on a clear night,

I gaze in wonder toward the sky,

I see the moon and the stars so bright,

They make me ponder the way things are.

Are we really supposed to believe,

That such things as these came to be,

By mere accidents and matters of fate,

Such beauty is only made by chance?

And when you look around this world,

To all the things in it that inspire us so,

The silent majesty of a peak capped in snow,

Or the sublime grace of the plains on a breezy day.

I do not say that you must believe as I do,

Or that my way is right or yours is wrong,

But to me is seems quite impossible that this,

Is just the product of some randomness.

Taking things on faith is hard for me,

But with these things even I can see,

Though I can’t say for sure whose hand it is,

There must be some guiding force in this.

This world would be a better place,

That if instead of the blind hate and violence,

We could just learn to better appreciate,

The beauty that is all around us.
