If you didn't see it but felt it coming.

I Don’t Love You

(I Just Like You)

You keep staring

From the corner of your eyes.

You look at me,

While I’m looking away.

When I look back,

You shudder and retreat.

Both of us know

What you are doing.

 

You drop hints about your love for me.

Come close, egg me into proposing you.

But you can’t make me fall in love.

‘Cause it’s clear that I don’t love you.

 

I just like your child-like smile,

Your innocent gaze,

Your caught-in-the-act

And then embarrassed phase.

The movement of your hands,

Stealing sights a few,

Giving a side glance,

I just like you.

 

 

Your friends,

They know all about this.

They are helping you

Bridge the gap between us.

Trying to get us

Into talking,

Trying to develop

The love that they can’t.

 

I might try to test the water.

Go close, then hold myself back.

No you can’t make me fall in love.

‘Cause I know that I don’t love you.

 

I just like your black spects,

Your glad days,

Your showing off

And then shocked face.

The sound of your voice,

The deep red hue

On your swollen cheeks,

I just like you.

 

No! This is not possible.

Not letting my guard down.

I’m preoccupied with my goals.

Love is the last thing on my mind.

 

You could climb the stepping stones to my heart,

Only to find a deserted mountain peak.

No you can’t make me fall in love.

It’s sorted out that I don’t love you.

 

I just like your child-like smiles,

Your innocent gaze,

Your caught-in-the-act

And then embarrassed phase.

Your leather jacket,

Your brown hair too,

Your tied plait,

I just lov---- like you.

Author's Note

This is my first attempt at a lyrical romantic poetry, a genre that has intrigued and excited me quite a lot in the recent past. It is often said that a good poet always tends to have an ear for good music. Lyrical genre is that one genre that blends poetry and music so well that it becomes intriguing and exciting. You would find that a lot of my upcoming poems belong to this genre.

This poem, specifically, talks about the situation in which a popular and beautiful girl falls in love with a rather unpopular guy who has a goal in his mind and could see nothing else other than that. The guy's emotions forms the major part of this poem.

When we fall in love, the heart plays the lyrics of blending where preoccupation becomes the all encompassing occupation with the shy and embarrassed, bridging gaps to the next stages and on. You are right for as the child grows so it does until it consumes every aspect of the seen and unseen worlds. An excellent write and a good genre...:).........

I like the 'holding back' manner of the speaker, cutting off the sensation as it gets deeper. I don't know much about poetic patterns, but the repeated lines are catchy and easily remembered. Good one.

My My St. Quin! Indeed I love your intrigue and I would love to tell you that this is called lyrical poetry. it's usually the biggest challenge for a poet. This sort of poetry acts as a bridge between the world of poetry and the world of music. You know there is a level of sincerity one needs to maintain while writing poetry, while writing a song one can play with the words to balance the rhyme and metre according to the song. The challenge triggered me into trying this out and I have loved lyrical poetry so much that you would see a lot more of it in my next few works.
