Gifts Ultra Rare

Gifts Ultra Rare

A Poem by Shivam Murari
"

This poem is a challenge to all those who consider the fairer sex as less important ,or worse, a burden and commit the violent crime of female foeticide or see them with dishonoring eyes.

"

     Gifts Ultra Rare

Folded in cloth, her eyes did shine

Parabola shifted by pi, ‘the daughter is mine’

Said in front of others,

How did you feel inside?

Okay let’s make a confession

It was on mother’s guide.

The girl grew up,

As broadens a brook.

Papa followed Mama,

She had a beautiful look.

Mama hugged the life

Papa was reluctant

But the daughter believed in him

Someday, he too would be resilient.

Then occurred an accident,

Mother had to go.

Daughter was left with father

And he got a blow.

Papa, papa, she said

In everything that followed.

Little did she know,

She would never be endowed.

Then 10 years later,

At 4 o’ clock in evening,

Daughter didn’t come home

The thought itself was aching.

For maybe he didn’t want her

He was a dad within

Was it already too late?

Got a rush of adrenaline.

Went to the police,

Took help of a neighbor

Nothing came in hand,

Except the morning newspaper.

"10 year old, raped and murdered"

Stood the headline distinct.

The face was translucent,

But the apparel succinct.

Dressed in mourning stands,

He who didn’t care.

Daughters are not a burden

They are gifts ultra rare.

Respect them, accept them,

Without them, the world is despair.

Welcome
I like this, Shivam. Nice rhythm and rhyme, but of course great concept. Being a woman, I admire your sympathy among these women who are victims of heartless men.
Keep writing poems like this.
Great job! :)

Unfortunatly, words are merely words, and we can not change the way others feel, and think of us daughters, but you have a knack for telling saddening, heart gripping stories through your poetry.
Really liked this write, well done :) Xxx

Thank you so much Shadey :)
This one hits right between the eyes!
This is a poem that makes someone shift uncomfortably, or nodding in fervent or sad agreement.
A daring and brilliant poem.
Nice work!

Thanks a lot Landred. Please rate the poem too! :)
Sadly, outsiders cannot radically "force" a culture to change - short of war and/or generations of contained political control and enforcement. In the long term attitudes need be modified by those within the culture to effect a change.

The determination of societal "worth" of an individual via either gender or race is an inherent weakness of that culture.

The weakness of your poem to me is in its content. You told a story without building an emotional bond between the daughter and father. It felt to me that you hinted at a caring without showing one.

I agree with your comments. And the emotional bond couldn't be set up because father hated her, as h.. read more
I must say Shivam, Truly and excellent piece of work. However, I'm not a poet so wont be passing any comments.
Had a better vision + some good words to amend in my upcoming poems
"Respect them, accept them,
Without them, the world is despair."

Simply amazing.. I have a daughter.. just 23 days old.
Matter of fact, its difficult but yes I'm proud to be blessed with those polite hands and color blind vision of her. :)

Send in the read request bro. You can send read requests whenever you want to :-)
A little strong in the way it makes its point. They are people out here who still shudder at such headlines ... but perhaps it reaches its own audience where the need is greatest. Electing to use laser as a substitute for surgery is the way most people deal with gall stones these days. Nice write.

You just did it. You are a great poet. You hit me in the right place. This is, sadly, so true. A masterpiece, no doubt!

What a wonderful story...well, a tragically wonderful story. I find this both well written and very well thought out. You managed something within the words that echoed the true heart itself. So fitting and apt are your words. Well done.
