Ocho Rios Businessman Joe Issa, who continues to contribute to the development of young people in the parish and his neighbouring St. Mary, has expressed pleasure at the establishment of a computer resource centre in Annotto Bay, St. Mary while urging users to think like the technology minister.

“I agree with the minister that we must not restrict ourselves to being users of technology. We must also become innovators of technology, and we have it in us to do so,” said Issa, who is known to believe that individuals have the power to determine their destiny.

Issa was referencing an article in which Science, Energy and Technology Minister, Dr Andrew Wheatley, was said to have ncouraged persons to move away from being mere consumers of technology and become innovators while noting “we have that inherent capacity”.

Minister Wheatley made it more believable by citi

ng a number of our young people who “are gaining employment opportunities within the app development… and in animation.”

Issa, whose Cool Charities subsidiary also donates

computers, among other items, to enhance the lear

ning experience at schools in both St. Ann and St. Mary, said the 16 desktop at the new resource centre “will empower more young people in the town by enabling access to the internet for a variety of information.”

Located on the grounds of the St Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, the centre is said to represent the ninth community access point (CAP) developed for St Mary by the Universal Service Fund (USF), and its 256th islandwide.

It is said to be equipped with 16 desktop computers, one Internet broadband server and supporting network capability, one printer, one projector, and two air-conditioning units.

Issa also applaude the USF efforts to upgrad the electricity in the building housing the centre, apparently through a partnership between the Church and the Annotto Bay Com

munity Development and Environmental Benefit Society, which applied for the CAP.
