AwakeningA Chapter by ShittyBakaFacewoot! 1st chapter!Have you ever noticed how water is so calming? The way that it generally rises splashes against the shore? The way that it smells so salty and cool. Yes, the water has always been so calming to me. Calming enough to lull me to sleep... I woke with a groan, opening my eyes to the sound of many big things rushing by. They sound so familiar, but so strange as well, I think as I stand up and stretch my stiff muscles. I wince, cursing the gods for making it possible for muscles to tighten uncomfortably, and roll my sholders. As I continue to stretch, a loud, annoying noise pierces through the suttle sound of big things rushing by and makes me jump. I whirl around suprised but ready in a defensive stance and take in my surroundings while looking for the source of the noise. By the looks of it I was in a narrow space, blocks of stone stacked up together coming up in almost every direction except in front of me, with waste everywhere in black, shiny material. Everything here had a name but for some reason I couldn't remember what any of these things were called. I squint my eyes and hold my head in my hands, trying to calm the dull thudding that erupted from thinking too hard. The annoying, loud sound starts up again with many others like it all around me causing the dull pain to grow. I glare daggers at the direction the noise was coming from and growl angrily. I wasnt the only one growling though, my stomach had started rumbling, and was it was drowning me in natural, animal instincts. I feel the slight prick in my mouth of my teeth growing longer and sharper, ready to dig in to the next morsle I found. The taste of my own blood fills my mouth, fueling the animal inside of me to take over; and it did. My pupils dilate, adjusting themselves to see better in my dark surroundings, while my nostrils flare trying to pick up a living scent. The rest of my senses sharpen and I begin the process of zoning in on something to eat. The smell of flesh and blood fills my nose and makes my mouth water; the animal was winning, and I knew it would taste so sweet to give in, so I let it win. Hunger and anger filled me, fueling my desire to hunt, my desire to kill. I will my fingers to snap out of place, to grow even longer and form sharp claws. My nails added a finishing touch as a sleek, sharply pointed, curved blade. My skin starts to tint to a nice aqua blue-green color, for camaflage, not that it would help in this place. Slightly darker, shiny scales slide out of my skin, covering my most intimate places and over areas of important organs, acting as some kind of armor. Since my transformation was complete I decided to make my way out of the narrow space. I creep forward, staying in the shadows, and glance around. I manage to make it around a corner but jump back, just as a giant steel animal speeds by. I know that thing... humans ride those places... what is it called again? I think, not noticing the figure walking slowly up to me. "AH! Wha- What are you!" My head snaps up and my eyes land on a young woman, possibly 19 years of age. From the direction she had came from I would say that it looked like she had came from a stone shelter that was brightly lit up with a loud thumping noise emanating from it. I looked around her, notcing something odd. She's alone, I think bringing my eyes back to her face. She was starting to turn slowly, as if not to startle me, and the thought processes. I lunge at her and grab at her arms, barely snatching her. She screams and turns completely around and starts to run, giving me her back. I take it. I run and jump into the air, thrusting my feet out at an angle aiming for her lower back, and quickly make contact sending her to the ground. As she starts scrambling to get up again I quickly take the chance to force my claws into her left leg and drag her deeper into the narrow space. I sit on top of her straddling her waist, also managing to pin her arms down at her sides with my legs, and bend forward to sniff her. She smelled like fear, I think as my mouth curves up into a horrifying grin. Her eyes make contact with mine and she opens her mouth to a terrifying O, as if she meant to scream, but no noise came out. So I sit back up and raise my dripping claw, covered in her blood, above my head and let out a satisfied purr. Just as I start to swipe my claw down at her throat, I stop. My nostrils flare as a new smell is added to the fear and blood; Salt. I look down and see clear water slowly travel down her cheek. The smell of its saltiness assaults my senses and sends me into shock allowing memories to flood my head, almost too quickly for me to comprehend, but I manage to catch a few. These humans... I used to be one, and I was about to kill one now. I retract my claws and lower my hand staring at her pretty, scared face. I lower my head and manage to remember a few words from before i became this. "I'm sorry." I whisper crushed. I was a monster, a monster who almost killed one of her own. I stand up and move away from her, my head still lowered, letting the salty water run down my cheeks as well. I hear her slowly get up, shuffling around me nervously, until she got closer to the opening of the narrow place. Then she turned around and started to run. I listen to her footsteps grow quieter as she got further away from me but then something strange happened. I hear her stop, take in a breath, and turn around. I glance up through my long, dark blue hair at her and curiously watch as she slowly limped towards me, fiddling with her hands nervously. When she was finally back in front of my she stopped and watched me silently. I keep my head down, not wanting to look at the destruction I have caused. She probably has brain damage now; Lovely. She clears her throat and brings her hands slowly up to my face and forces me to look at her eyes. She seemed to be more level headed; Well lets just see what comes out of that pretty little mouth. "I don't know what you are and I don't know why you didn't kill me but," she takes in a shakey breath, "but you seem confused... and scared. And by the looks of it you have a conscience, so... I wanna help you." I searched her eyes, finding only sincerity in them, and nod. She smiles, looking more confident, and takes her coat off. "Good. Here put my coat on and wear this hat to cover your head! We need to sneak you back to my place!". © 2010 ShittyBakaFaceAuthor's Note
