Guilt - A poem by Shirley Petrandis

Guilt - A poem by Shirley Petrandis

A Poem by Shirley Petrandis
"

I wrote this back in 2006 for all those who have a conscience and have said or done things they know were not right.

"

Guilt

A little voice inside your head,
One of which, you simply dread.
Can eat away your very soul,
Should you ignore, will take its toll.

Some drink to make it go away,
While others turn to God and pray.
Soon to find it does no good,
To rid yourself of all you should.

Remorse, regret, angst and dread,
Are just some of the thoughts that fill your head.
Not to mention, how often lead to depression,
Forcing you to many a counseling session.

Guilt show its face when you do wrong,
Then stays with you your whole life long,
That is, unless you own the deed,
And forgive yourself, thus you are freed.

Real talk here. I like how you broke this down so simply. A lot of people will relate to this whether or not they are poetry lovers. Kudos

Well done! I couldn't have done it better if I tried myself! Hope to read more!

The flow of this piece is what really kept me going from start to finish...the meter and the tone are quite nice. What you speak of is poignant, clever and true, as we all have that "little voice" that we sometimes wish we could turn off or drown out. Well done.

I enjoyed reading it; it is a very interesting poem. Knowing that the only way you can be free, is to forgive yourself.

You are the one that lives with the pain of what you have done. Until you forgive yourself you'll always be damned.

Very interesting poem dealing with guilt
and innocense, very well written and philosophically
sound.
Thank you !
