COLLATERAL

I lay here….

infant fingers and toes

paralyzed

bright red blood and urine

soaking freshly washed sheets

a ricochet bullet

lodged within my head

celestial beings besiege me

"I'm newborn, I'm infant

don't take me I've just arrived,

I pray thee let me live"

do not my dark blue eyes avow

the magnificence of your skies?

my golden hairs affirm

your opulent sun?

does fate not have a plan laid out,

shall I humble at deaths dark door?

must war be both my

dawning and my demise?

I've yet to taste your nectar

roam your waterways and shores

embrace the very richness

of your soil

my tiny body full of grace

has yet to kneel and pray

my cries resound on

cymbals sounding strong

Awaken them!

the shots subside

the blood pours from my head

"collaterals of war

my child

like you

they're lying dead"
