nearer to love

nearer to love

A Poem by Shirlena

sorry
I had to be gone
you gazed
too much depth
and wide

remember
you really wanted us
being something
with tender young legs
I skied

unrefined
the ways of love

I knew not
what I had shunned
til mind and heart
did a hopscotch
pounding these eights
crazy patterns

tried to call
yo' mama
tried to call
yo' sister

mama said
never mind now
no longer to beseech

of him

heard 'bout
the sojourn
the big city

suspect...
you had to be
in the wind

I can still hear your distinctive voice even in a lament like this, writing about love is good for you. Being jilted is the step to maturity sometimes? The elusive quality of what we seek and who we are is what, after all, makes life interesting.

I like this a lot. Feels like a random thought string held together with poetic imagery.
