be glad you came

be glad you came

A Poem by Shirlena

didn't ask for nuthin

wanted you to be pleased with your own arrival

never say that your arm was in danger of being twisted

full out lady I was born to be

birthed in dignity like my mama

there could be some soil in between

but every day I throws myself under the falls

I come back as a person very close

ain't gone beg for nothing

not a dime from my sister

who taught me family can be a stranger

in the streets and I take nothing for granted

so she can keep her money with all

of her accumulations

there is enough pretty going on

so you don't get an invitation cause you fine

plenty of lovely looking in the mirror

ain't but room for one and something

brawny as a keep sake...manly with blue collars

don't need affection

unless you give it up willingly

and my back is turned

I want you to be glad you came
