Malevolance

Malevolance

A Poem by SJ Roebling

Malevolance

A heartfelt smile

Lost in a frown

Unbending dominance

My freewill bound.

Foreboding thoughts

I kept at bay

And stood your need

To have your way.

You dare not face

The thorny truth

Reality

Life’s’ sweet vermouth.

You would not see

How hard I tried

How much I gave

How much I died.

Your ego slave

To follow suit

Would not give way

Prefer me mute.

Malevolence

Did I endure.

A pestilence

Left without cure

Ambivalence

Became my stance

The scar I bore

To stay the dance

You wanted all

Despite my cries

Induced to feign

Reduced to lies.

Ceded my soul,

You seized at will

Regardless, still

Was not enough

But, I lay waste

No single thing

No part of me

To which I’d cling

And just as swift

Did I let go

And left behind

Less than you know.
