"Schizophrenic"

"Schizophrenic"

A Poem by SJ Roebling

~Schizophrenic~

Tethered dreams,

And silent screams,

I cling to my misgivings.

A single thread,

Yet binds me,

To reality.

Voices beckon,

From dark crags,

I flee from myself,

Yet I leave

My soul

Behind.

Shades of gray,

Muddled memories,

Tap at my head.

Ratt, tatt, tatt,

Like raindrops

On a metal roof.

Harrowing delusions,

Play before me,

Ebbing and flowing,

Through my diseased,

Psychotic,

Brain.

I am King

And Queen

Of my own majesty.

You do not exist,

Except for that

I allow.

But is it I,

Who misinterprets,

My actuality?

Or is it you,

In your portentous

Scheme of things.

Just leave me be,

To my uttered existence,

And my short lived,

Convelescence.

So I may once more,

Retreat into my world….

This is a tough topic to undertake I believe although knowing someone who is afflicted with the disease I believe you capture it rather brilliantly - there still is the question lingering here as to whether the person afflicted or those around them are really the ones who are troubled. It seems to me you annunciate this in so few words. Thank you. Quite an undertaking.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I too know someone afflicted with this disease and I feel that you captured it, beautifully. Well, as beautifully as it can be portrayed, I guess. Probably the wrong choice of words, on my part. I enjoyed the verse:

Harrowing delusions,
Play before me,
Ebbing and flowing,
Through my diseased,
Psychotic,
Brain.

Brilliant, in my opinion.
