The Evolution of Humankind...

The Evolution of Humankind...

A Poem by SJ Roebling
"

Yes, I am a wildlife enthusiast and a tree hugger.... and proud of it!

"

The Evolution of Humankind….

So much superficiality.

All a means to an end.

No more honor or integrity.

Only more harm to mend.

Power, greed, and ignorance,

Corrupt our world's societies.

Corporations and high finance,

Taxes, fines, and fees.

Endless raping of our earth,

A world covered with asphalt towns.

Too many deaths and births,

Not much wildlife left around.

Raw resources near depletion,

Polluted rivers, brooks and streams,

All the repercussions,

Are thus ignored to the extreme.

For creatures with such large brains,

We are as stupid as they come.

Not to mention selfish and vain,

To our destruction we are numb.

Yet I thank God for the few,

Who make up for all the rest,

In the caring things they do,

Always giving of their best.

And it’s these conscientious souls,

That keep us hanging by a thread.

For how important is their role,

In protecting all of which we tread.

I believe this is an important subject. We so-called more intelligent species are ruining the planet and endangeringthe lives of all other living things on it. You've touched on every sin humankind perpetuates on the planet and our animal neighbors that have to share it with us. Ha...I've hugged a few trees and rolled down grass too; becausethey were there! We all could stand to love the joys of nature enough to want to protect it. Geez, keep going..what's next? We'll see! Blessings!

Another great write.
Your work encompasses so many areas. You have a great range, and the rhyming is perfect.

I, too, an a tree hugger. As a species, it would be nice if we were more humble and unassuming. I have to wonder where our trajectory takes us. A great poem and thought piece.
