Nostalgia

Nostalgia

A Poem by John Galloway
"

I laugh about things that make me cry when I'm in a good mood. After reading this, I can only laugh.

"

It feels like my insides are acid,

Though my arteries are cosseted,

My heart is too fragile,

As it dangles beneath my rib cage,

Exposed to the bane,

It dissolves so slowly.

But, prior to the ending,

Just when the acid has broken down almost all of my heart,

It beats once more and a portrait of you flashes into my mind.

I lose my breath and open my mouth,

Then scream, “From my eyes flow compassion for you!”

But it diminishes in the plummeting, the disbanding, and the despondency.

How appropriate that was.

Too bad my heart’s gone now, and I can never see you again.

_______ Note: ________

I give all credit for line 11 to my favorite band, Chiodos, for having put into words that which I could describe no better.

I don't know what some of those words mean.
