The power of the human wantA Poem by ShianThey became what they idolised, through the span of time and, relentless weight of passive want every individual achieved the life they desired.
Those who coveted wealth, became the wealthy; bloated by their own spoils ignorantly reclined at the summit of a mound of human suffering a product of their own greed and brutality.
Those who sought the arts, became the artists; coldly hunched on the borders of society with only their self sustaining isolation as comfort toiling to understand a world that offers them only contempt in return.
Those who reached for power, became the powerful; scrambling like starving rats for more than they had until their hunger cripples them into the corporate shape, and they become a mindless component of a heartless machine, rising and being spat out again.
Those who wanted good, became the good; striving against the crushing weight of evil of their fellow man their eyes soon opened to the futility of their efforts then they lay, broken men, and allow death to flow over them.
Those who were fools, stayed fools; ignorant of any want beyond what they already have of the evil of wealth, pain of art, corruption of power, or pointlessness of good drifting peacefully to their graves, unremembered. And they, my friend, were the wisest of all.
