Fireflies

Fireflies

A Poem by Sunny

I know that I am supposed to be sleeping but I can't help leaving.
I stare through the window at the blinking lights down the street and smile to myself. They'll probably not even notice that I'm missing.
I've never in my life been so grateful to live in a mobile home and never been so grateful that I don't have a dog.
I don't shut the window because it will make a noise.
I don't run until I'm off of the grass for the same reason.
As soon as I hit the pavement I dart and start catching fireflies.
I don't really keep track of time but when the sky starts to brighten I know I am in trouble because I can't hear my mother shouting for me.
