Angeline's Wiccan Sabotage

Angeline's Wiccan Sabotage

A Story by Sheryll McKenzie

A Wiccan fiction story.

Wow, I couldn’t believe it, but I was actually invited to sing at the Genies Awards 2016. Okay, I had my friend nag them into inviting me, but here I was, still singing!

My scene would be a background of clouds, and I was decked out in a costume, trying to look like Nyx, the mythological goddess of night that gave birth to the Three Fates of Time. My background singers, who would sing “shadow” when I did, and “clouds.”

“Now introducing…Angelina Quinlan Zaveri!” they boomed proudly. I used to be a good Pagan girl in my childhood, but not anymore. I grew up, I was an eighteen-year-old now.

A girl with shoulder-length, wavy black hair and freckles frowned when she saw my black gown, and the black paint across my arm saying NYX, and I had on NYX Makeup to seal the deal.

I was dressed up in a midnight-colored bodysuit with a black mesh overlay dress, gold trims, a low-cut bust, an elaborate gold-leaf headpiece and a black triple moon necklace, as well as a pentacle bracelet. Hey, what was that girl’s problem?

You sent a message,
God’d make me die if I left
I’d get no massage
My bravery, knowledge, to the test
!”

My backup singers mouthed, “Two months, two months, two months in life left.”

Maybe I rushed too quickly,
Maybe I tried too fast
Just to kiss you and call you soul mate
Was a rash error of the past
.”

“Two months, two months, two months in life left.”

Now you’re a shadow
I’m not scared to say bye and break free
I won’t die in two months
Through the crystal ball of time I clearly see
Where you’d been a fear that I just had to avoid
Now I’m unafraid
I’m out of Chaos, escaped the empty void
Out of one-hundred I’m ninety-nine
I gaze through the clouds
.”

It was a perfect chorus, especially the part about Chaos the empty void, which gave birth to Nyx, the Goddess and Night Personified in fake Greek mythology. Hey, they’re called myths for a reason, so what was that goth girl crying about?

When I think,
‘What if he’s right?’
I remember,
I’m protected by Night
.”

The girl walked off from her seat. I raised my voice, making sure that every single member of the audience could hear this perfect, glorious song with the creative twist that Greeks should be loving right now.

You probably were nothing at all
I’ll block every message and call
.”

I needed to do well.

Now you’re a shadow
I’m not scared to say bye and break free
I won’t die in two months
Through the crystal ball of time I clearly see
Where you’d been a fear that I just had to avoid
Now I’m unafraid
I’m out of Chaos, escaped the empty void
Out of one-hundred I’m ninety-nine
I gaze through the clouds
.”

Not good enough.

Baby, lie in peace
But I can’t see you through the crowd!

Now you’re a shadow
I’m not scared to say bye and break free
I won’t die in two months
Through the crystal ball of time I clearly see
Where you’d been a fear that I just had to avoid
Now I’m unafraid
I’m out of Chaos, escaped the empty void
Out of 100 I’m 99
I gaze through the clouds
!” At the last line, I sang it so loudly that the circle of fire around me (that had just appeared and wasn’t real fire) couldn’t compare.

I was going to repeat my line, this time quieter to finish time off, but gods, my finale line was so loud and astonishing! “I gaze through the--” Suddenly a bat flew at me. Trying to swat it away, I fell and ouch, my leg. I sprained and broke something…or somethings.

The bat dropped a note saying, “MY ANIMAL WILL TEACH YOU TO IMPERSONATE ME!” Just then, a black cat appeared and I screamed. “Ah! Get away, get away!

The girl walked up and said, “Wait. I’m just so, so sorry. I sent the bat, an animal of Nyx, to get you and to drop the note using telepathy. The bat’s my familiar, or spiritual aligned animal. I was upset that you made fun of my patron goddess Nyx…so I kind of, set you up. I’m so, so sorry. I was so, so wrong and it wasn’t right. Not in the least. In fact, that was stupid and jealous, and Wicca wouldn’t approve. An’ ye harm none, do what ye will…”

“What? I was joking, and Nyx is a fake Goddess!” I yelled. “And if she’s real like the rest of your Wiccan stupidity, why’d she never get mentioned?”

“Well, think of it - Christians believe in three deities which would be God, Jesus Christ, and the Great Spirit. They have three instead of four, and it’s weird, and you may wonder why. Of course, this is just my theory. Because, the Fourth Face of the Goddess is the darker face of the goddess. Maiden, Mother, and Crone are all good, friendly, and the Fourth Face is the side of nighttime, the beauty in the storm. And Christianity doesn’t like the dark, so they only have three deities and not four. Nyx being a dark Goddess, She is ignored, barely mentioned, and avoided. But She is, in truth, benevolent. But I find Her to be dark yet benevolent. She is a good-dark deity, which means that She is good-hearted even though she isn’t a sunshiny, smiley, fluffy bunny Goddess.”

“What, who is Nyx, other than the Goddess of Night and the star of my fatal concert?” I couldn’t even laugh at my sarcastic joke, you know? I was too throbbing with pain. “Stop, don’t lift me up yet. I want to hear what the girl’s gotta say first.”

“Her element is Spirit out of the Five Elements, but Water out of the Four Elements. Depending on how many elements you count, it’d be either Spirit or Water. Her planet is the Moon, but being the Goddess of Night, I suppose it’s expected of Her. I naturally felt closeness to the moon. You don’t have to be Pagan - I’m just giving you some information on Nyx, so any religious or spiritual beliefs that accidentally spill out, you can just ignore. Again, this is a Pagan’s point-of-view, but I’m trying to stay broad based and informative. Her colors are black, white, and silver, but mostly black. Being the goddess of Night, She’s also related to the Moon, which glows in the Night only. The moon isn’t as special to Her as night, but still - I may as well mention it. Her symbols are triple moons, a black veil with sparkles (kind of like the night sky with stars), and everything else resembling the Moon and Nighttime. Her animals are black cats, bats, and owls, which is why I sent a bat flying at you with a mean, threatening note. You know, if you contribute to…hey, is that a red strand on the floor?”

“Yeah, I straightened my red hair and dyed it pure midnight black, but I keep one strand of red hair in my hand with me for good luck, even though my hair’s dyed fully black forever,” I replied casually. “Um, I’m not being a singer again! Damn Trump-ish dealmaker Daniella!”

“Her day of the week is the day of the moon and female energies, which is Monday,” the girl replied. “That’s why Monday’s the dreaded day of work - to demean Paganism, Nighttime, Femininity, and the Fourth Face of the Goddess. Google “fourth face of the goddess” and it’ll explain more. Her Pagan sabbats are Samhain…”

“Sam-Hain?”

“Pronounced shall-when, but Samhain. Her other sabbat’s Yule. A website I’ve seen said Yule, but I’d say that most likely Samhain would reasonate with Her better - but either way, they’re both special to Her mostly I guess. Better throw in both of them just in case.” The girl shrugged. “Anyway, you’ve got to go.”

“And you have to go to Anger Management Class, and you’ll have to attend Cognitive Therapy as well as pay one-hundred dollars and thirty dollars to Miss Zaveri after what you’ve done.”

“OK.”

I went off, happy. I’d finally learned of it. Wicca.
