Shine

Shine

A Chapter by Sheryll McKenzie
"

Time to shine!

"

It’s funny how they make you
who they want you to be

And then they call themselves,
themselves your family

It all seems like it makes sense
the way you’re who they want

But is it really there,
really there to construct

But are you comfortable with that?
Don’t they see,
oh don’t they see,
‘oh, what they did to me!’

They say that,
‘You are mine’

But open your eyes
and stand up after you cry

Because, darling, you’re a mile away

Nobody can catch up today

They think you’re the one who can’t play
But you’ll smash them, smash them like clay

Oh, baby, you’re a gold statue at heart
They just have to let you spark

Make them cry,
oh oh oh

Show them how you
go, go, go

So funny, don’t you know?
The way you just agree
You easily conform,
so easily you’re swayed

But baby you aren’t glad,
in fact you’re super-mad

Deep inside,
the soul that you gotta hide

You put yourself away,
smash yourself like clay

And you let them rule,
and you stop feeling cool

But are you comfortable with that?
Don’t they see,
oh don’t they see,
‘oh, what they did to me!’

They say that,
‘You are mine’

But open your eyes
and stand up after you cry

Because, darling, you’re a mile away

Nobody can catch up today

They think you’re the one who can’t play
But you’ll smash them, smash them like clay

Oh, baby, you’re a gold statue at heart
They just have to let you spark

Make them cry,
oh oh oh

Show them how you
go, go, go
