RotA Poem by B. L. Bulten
And the berries you gave away,
To swap "sweet" for something "more", Will not stay ripe for your return, Upon chance you change your mind. The cassonades they were known for, Will transpose into something strange. They'll corrode in their own delicacy, In the wake of a world unkind. Their fluid forms will decompose, Their honey will soon turn sour. They will eat themselves alive until, No soul would ever be enticed. For if their purpose to nourish beasts, With all they are is left undone, And best laid plans are led adrift, Then fate must be redefined. And so the berries you gave away, Will give their sweetness to the earth, In hopes a bushel will come along, With a flavor to sate your appetite. © 2024 B. L. Bulten |
