I Am With You

I wrote this a good few years ago when I was feeling a bit low. I don't know where the ideas sprang from but it has always remained really special to me.

Yes, it is I who sits by

And watches you cry,

Sees your pain and suffering

And vain plea for help.

 

I hear your curses against me,

The accusations, the blame.

I listen to your deep, sincere prayer,

Watch your tears fall

And your hope fade.

Yet, I do nothing?

 

I let your agony continue,

Your pain increase,

Your spirit shatter.

But I do not watch you unmoved.

 

Know yet,

I will not abandon you

In your hour of need,

Nor rejoice in your misfortunes.

I shall suffer the same as you,

Endure the grief and anguish

Alongside you.

You shan’t be alone in your torment

For I shall be with you,

To help and comfort you

For I love and care for you.

 

　

Every insult shall be like

The scourge;

Every tear,

A thorn piercing my brow;

Every hour of despair,

A nail driven into my flesh;

Every loss of faith,

A sword in my side.

 

Yet while I suffer

With you,

I will not give up

Hope for you.

Your life and suffering

Are not in vain.

After the storm

The sun will shine

And it will shine for you.

 

Dearest child,

Do not give up hope.

However long the storm,

However weak the sun’s rays,

The day will dawn

When you will bless

All you can remember.

And misery and suffering

Will be forgotten,

Forever…
