The Rain,A Chapter by Jasmine S. Edwardslet the sky cry for the broken heartApollo reveals more of his past to Kenjin and Carmyne and says that he was in prison after the war. There, men took advantage of him for being a newbie and for his more feminine appearance. One of the inmates informed him that it was Seymour who put him there. Seymour said he was a spy for a rival syndicate who wanted the crystals. Apollo was from a rival syndicate, but he wasn't a spy. However, he did want the crystals for himself to make money off of. He still had some of his supply hidden in his cell and would deal it to the inmates which helped him get through most days without someone beating him up. Eventually, he escaped and obtained his possession from his old apartment and found a new one. He was able to change his identity with Lorelei’s help and in return he gave her a laptop.
In the present, Apollo asks Kenjin if she could stay with them saying that her connections can be very useful. Lorelei agrees to help them with their investigation and will uses her computer skills to gain any information of Carmyne’s children’s whereabouts. Kenjin allows it and tells Captain that the hackers are everywhere and no one person controls them.
Carmyne thinks back to that time, the end of the war. Apollo was waiting for Carmyne to recover after she admitted herself into the hospital thinking she had an internal injury but she was just pregnant. One day, he disappeared and Seymour wrote her a letter to inform her that he was imprisoned for being a spy and crystal possession. He tells her to forget about Apollo if she doesn’t want to be imprisoned too and that neither of them care for her; Apollo only used her to get the crystals and Seymour used her for her combat skills. Seymour warns her that if she tries to find him that he will kill her and that she needs to go into hiding since she is already under suspicion knowing Apollo. The nurse hides her from the detectives until she has her baby. She is then sent to Condor. Fast forward, she thinks about her time as Seymour’s captive. She wonders why he is keeping her alive, but she knows its because he wants to torture her. She asks him what happened to Apollo after their drug deal. He says there was no trade and that he killed Apollo in self defense saying he was an escaped convict addicted to crystal. He asks her if she hates him for killing her lover, she replies “no” because she told him not to make the trade and she knew he was addicted, someone had to end his torment- better it was an old comrade than a stranger. He laughs and says that she’d forgive him for anything. She says as long as his intension are good.
Carmyne talks to Apollo in private and blames herself for his imprisonment saying that she did something to Seymour that he resented her for. However, Apollo believes that he was imprisoned because he fell in love with Seymour and Seymour resented him for that. He expressed his feeling towards Seymour moments before he tried killing him. After that incident and knowing that Carmyne planned to leave with Apollo, he didn’t want either to be happy. Seymour had hoped that Apollo would hate him for what he did and stay away. Apollo set up the drug deal to see if Seymour was ashamed of his “weakness”- his feelings for Apollo. Seeing that Seymour attempted to kill him, Apollo feels that Seymour was ashamed, even if he saw Apollo as just a friend. Now they believe that his imprisonment was used to keep Apollo away for temptation’s sake, to keep Carmyne in fear of being imprisoned and both miserable. They both know that he was truly heart broken when his world fell apart after he returned home from war and Seymour hated that Apollo is the only person who truly loved him. Sequence: "The Rain"- Melody Gardot Apollo gets handcuffed and is carried away to jail. His hair is cut and clothes taken away as he is thrown in his cell in grey overalls. He looks at his cell window. At dinner time a group of men beat him up. He showers off the blood later that night. Carmyne is in pain during childbirth, an emergency C-section is called. Soon, she holds Zane for the first time. Seymour is in the courtroom, he hands the judge Apollo's file and later burns Carmyne's. Seymour is let go and he heads back to The City. Apollo stands in the rain after his escape. It's a rainy day when Carmyne arrives in Condor. Seymour looks out his window and on his desk is a pile of letters that have "Return to Sender" stamped on them.
