Waltz from the Piano KeysA Poem by Jasmine S. Edwards A simple tree with nuts. A silence in the air. A pinwheel keeps turning as the wind blows. Silence is accompanied by a gentle breeze. A house window is shut. A strong light shines there. Fingers on a piano glide and flow. The melody escapes through the window with ease. A simple harmony from the gut. Each note is played with care. Only the wolf wants to know. It howls to the moon for a night tease. There is no if ands or buts. It is all she has to bear. The moon in the sky is neither high or low. The wolf is memorized by the piano keys. He stumbles to the window with cuts. The melancholy melody they share. A waltz in the moonlight for show. They sit in the snow and together freeze. Piling up around them are nuts. They sit with eyes shut. A strong feeling fills their guts. They sit on numb butts. Bodies aching from open cuts. Just like clean air. No one saw them there. No one to care. For the loneliness they bare. The one thing this child and wolf shared. Faster the wind blows. The snow drifts and flows. Looking at the moon they know, how fast it goes from high to low. Yet feeling it never shows. The wind is no longer a gentle breeze. The two are covered by snow with ease. Through a small opening the moon still tease. The waltz plays on the piano keys but the fingers freeze.
