FOCUSA Poem by Jasmine S. EdwardsYou always hold on to this one thing, that thing that makes you so empty inside. It takes your heart on a roller coaster ride until you fall off the tracks because they have become so rotten, from the inside to the outside. Why do you keep so much hate inside? Although I know that it is really just pain. You try to hide those rotten feelings that wear down your heart, but those feelings are written all over your face with each sour look you make, every smug remark you say. I see you looking through the mirror wishing to be on the other side. And how you are convinced that you can’t, so the pieces of yourself lay shattered on the floor. Broken and lonely. Sharp. Not showing the whole picture. From what I see, you put more energy in doing things half-heartily because your lust for power is so great. And overtime that power overpowers you. You take revenge on those who test you or try to take that power, Away. Yes, it may be deep-rooted, instilled in your brain since you were a child that your drive should be to succeed in life. But really? Should that be your only focus?
