Stay Here or Go There?

Can a boy or girl be glad at all times or is there one thing not there?

It by no means ends. The search for the right home, some may find it, some do not. A place of a dream, the place where you wish to be has more harms than it seems.

There are the woods, near the town, to the east. There is a beach, to the west, next to the sea. Fish swim in the sea and deer graze the grass. Birds fly in the sky and some hit the glass. They are too clean, too clear for their eyes.

The town has six main roads. One runs north to south, one east to west and the last four box the two roads. No roads lead in or out of the town. Homes sit side-by-side on one side of the road while the stores, schools and the place where the sick are cured, are built on each box the road forms.

Day hits this small town. A girl pulls back the soft sheet of warmth. In her left eye she sees the woods, a place where creeps come for you. In her right eye she sees the beach, a place where calm finds you. In this place, things stay the same. Is it all even? No creeps, but no time on your own. Loud but voice is heard. Not still but sleep comes. They slack but work gets done. Not frail but death comes with age. Is it all even?

Will she dare leave this town? She takes time to think this through. What would she find in each? The beach has sand, the sea, and the clear blue skies. What comes with it; sharp rocks, big waves and things of the land and the deep that guard what is there. The woods have trees, plants and fresh air. What comes with it; bugs, death if she strokes the wrong plant and things of the land and the deep that guard what is there. The woods hides while the beach shows. The beach is light and the woods are dark.

She shuts her eyes and thinks some more.

When her eyes see the light once more she makes up her mind.

That night she looks out the glass but no beach or woods are in sight.
