Tricky Light

Tricky Light

A Poem by Jasmine S. Edwards

Daytime Nighttime Sunlight Moonlight

In the sunlight I feel calm. I feel protected by the light. Nothing is out of sight.

At nighttime I feel cautious. The light is no longer here to guide me. There is nothing I can see around me.

In the daytime, I can go anywhere I want without a fear or a worry.

At nighttime I am limited to pools of light that guide me down the street.

In the daytime I can be in my house alone.

But in the moonlight everything is an unknown.

I try to keep the lights on, but when the power goes out…I’m doomed.

In the daytime I hear no sounds; no squeaks, no creaks, no gusts of wind.

At nighttime I hear everything; every squeak, every creak, every gusts of wind.

In the sunlight I can sit alone in my room, finding many things to keep me busy.

In the moonlight I sit in my room with my eyes constantly scanning.

In the daytime I see light making dust in my room ever so visible, furniture casting shadows on my floor.

In the moonlight I see shadows on my wall that may be someone or nothing at all.
