![]() SanctuaryA Story by Jasmine S. Edwards![]() Descriptive Piece; Colors!![]() I lay my head on my pillow waiting for a spell to be cast over my eyes. Streams of white light beam though the window; it is a full moon tonight; city lights twinkle like stars reflecting off an ocean; Seattle is so restless. The generator of the body never rest, it continually pumps streams of red wine from one organ to another while the control center lets broken pictures float into my eyes and one by one they start to match up with each other, like pieces of a jig-saw puzzle. I close my eyes to see that the bright light has illuminated the darkness of my eyes, but eventually it does fade into black and when the dark mists clears, color pierces through that darkness, like a rainbow shooting its emotions into your eyes, like color dye latching onto an Easter egg. When the colors rearrange into unfamiliar places that is when I know I’m in deep sleep. I see the blue turn into water that filled a basin of sand; the water gradually became deeper but I don’t know how deep it actually descended because I would never dare to go in water too deep. The indigo tuned into the sky that stretches as far as my eye can see; this gave the water an indigo hue as well so it is hard to see my reflection. To fix this, the yellow tuned into stars and these stars seemed to twinkle like crystals shimmering under a microscope, but I can’t sleep on sand and survive off water. The green turned into trees and grass, grass as smooth as a baby’s bottom and the red turned into apples that grew on those trees and when ripped fell on that grass. With no source of warmth the orange turned into a camp fire, it burned bright with the heat of a thousand suns while smoke rose up, into the air forming thin clouds in the sky. Now the rainbow only consisted of one color, violet, and I had no where to put it, but what if I got sick? I would need something to make me better so the violet turned into flowers that not only added decoration to the scenery but they can be made into herbal medicine. Now I feel at peace, I lay down on the grass next to my campfire with my feet in the water, apple in one hand and a flower in the other, looking up at the stars in the sky. I am all out of colors, I hope I have everything I need, but then I realize something highly important is missing…the sun. The sun is what keeps the water at bay through evaporation, the sun is what keeps the grass, trees, flowers and apples growing, and the sun is what enables me to see even the smallest details. Shall I give up my multitude of stars for one big one? As my eyes begin to open beams of light seep through my slits and reveal to me my answer. The city lights are no longer on or at least no longer visible because they are out-shined by the biggest, brightest light of them all. Its fiery rays illuminate the morning sky, blinding my eyes who are adjusting to this change. This is the moment I figured out that the value of the sun is immense.
