Modification of the soul

This is about Tattoos and Piercings, things that mean alot to me

These scars remind me

Of the past

That follows me like a lost puppy

Looking for its keeper

 

I feel the ink set

Into my skin

Like the scars I wear

These are my memories

 

I feel the steel set in my skin

Piercing flesh

With a glistening tint

Of silver

 

The skin heals

Crusting like the images of the days

Of darkness

 

The images define the lines

And the colours of my life

The glistening steel of a shining future

 

My soul is characterised

By the scars I wear

My past is depicted

By the ink in my skin

 

For this is the modification of the soul

I really like this as a description of tattoos, especially since you never actually specified that it was a tattoo you were talking about. It could almost have been an ars poetica, or about any kind of art, not just body art. I like ambiguity like that. I plan on getting a few tattoos myself, and I like that you used them as "scars" to reveal that the tattoos don't just represent the good things in your life, but all things that make up who you are. Another good write from you. Keep sending me RRs.

I love this! I'm not much into tattoos personally but I have my lip ring and really want to get more peircings. I like how you compare them to scars and they are in their own way. They stay with us like scars and I think that is a great way of looking at it. The only difference is we have more choice in the scars we give ourselves through tattoos and peircings. This was a great poem, I really loved it!
