Societies veil

A little something about the state the worlds in

We ponder international dangers

Of Middle Eastern crisis'

Of Warfare in a foreign land

 

Can we not just consider our freedom?

This veil that politicians place

Over already blinded eyes

 

Their dark cloud of judgement overshadows

The peoples sun

Casting shadows of poverty

And of grief

 

Is this just another Thatcher?

This ConDem league of de-moralization

 

Are these the days that we hated so much?

The working class shot down

Like the HIndenburg

 

We feel the pounding of their rifle

Of unemployment

Driving loved ones into oblivion

Forced to benefits

 

Our country is falling apart

Is this what we are destined for?

We were once an empire

Rulers of the world

And now....

We are nothing

Eloquent poetic take on the current malaise in 'developed' countries.
Good piece, but easier for all of us to decry our societies, than to accept our shared responsibility for this situaion (eg our failure to fight/lobby/demionstrate/rally to defend our individual freedoms, and our debt-financed consumer lifestyles).

Wow... what a powerful and truthful poem. I love the mentioning of Thatcher and the Hindenburg.. great examples with just the mention of their names. This is so true of not only the UK but also the USA.. we are all falling apart, demoralized, poverty-striken and nothing. So Sad. Your poem describes all of this so eloquently.

Yes I understand this poem. The world is controlled by the countries with little concern except their own well being. United Kingdom and the USA is going broke. I believe it is time to bring back the Soldiers. Have we done anything to change the mind of people who kill people in the same religion because of more or less belief? We are dealing with mad-men and need to escape before we become too deep and become their destine goal. Last line is a true statement. A outstanding poem.
