A Ghost Of A Chance

Part 1

My mother looked at my grandmother as they stared at each other that said you asked for it, are ready to play hardball. My mother looked at Aaron and my adoptive parents said. “I think Rothwell’s have proven that Aaron would be happier here, but I have some reservation in regards to what Aaron can and can not do while under their roof. I am sure his grandmother would agree, with me.” Having my caseworker sign a document that states she had just placed Aaron into my adoptive parents care.

Grandma gave a nod said. “I would like that in writing, but I think we can work something out, and I have to admit it, but your right… but don’t you think for one minute Mr. Rothwell I won’t be watching, now that I know what you are doing. I may not agree with you as you have clearly pointed out that Eric is considered an adult. I have to either accept the fact he is no longer the little boy that I have helped raised over the years. That he can now make his own decisions as much as I don’t like them at the moment, but I meant what I said; if he is hurt anyway or ends up dead. I will sue you for every cent you got, and I will make damn sure that every child under your care is placed into the system, while you spend the rest of your life in prison.”

Dad took the threat seriously said. “We will draw up a contract this afternoon if it makes you feel better about it.” Mom and Dad signed the document making it a done deal and smiled at me and Aaron, said. “You still haven’t answered my other question in regards to why his foster parents kicked him to the curb, now that we have established that Aaron is staying here for now while his mother is recovering and waiting for her doctors to tell us she is going home and is capable of caring for Aaron.”

My caseworker said placing everything back in her briefcases other than her notes. “Oh, nothing for you to be concerned about I assure you. As you know Aaron is a good kid, not like those boys you have taken in, in the past. Yet according to them, Aaron was a little more then they can handle stating he had some behavior issues that they couldn’t deal with. And this wasn’t the first time this has happened or that I have been called to the home to speak with them about it. After I had explained to them how Aaron was being raised and the behavior issue they might have with him. Like night terrors, a form of PTSD for what his father has done to him and his brother. Yet apparently it was worse then I thought and I have tried to reason with them about it… Yet when it came the main issues they were having, which was about him being raised in a nudist environment.

“I tried to explain to them that. Boys would be boys, but they were more concerned with what their son Mike and he were doing more than anything. Which was they had caught Aaron him naked in their son’s bed, licking chocolate sauces off each other. Plus the fact Aaron has mentioned several times that he likes the idea of family bathing and that he was raised with the idea. That family nudity is nothing more than one another sharing themselves and had been skinny dipping many times together with you Mr. and Mrs. Rothwell and his mother when his brother Eric is home visiting.

“Hell, my own boys have been doing it, since the moment they have had their first erection and it’s nothing new too seeing them run around on hot summer days in my home naked, or going skinny dipping. That being said and I had warned them that Aaron might display this type of behavior… and that he might have sever night terrors before they accepted him into their home in the first place. Assuring me that shouldn’t be a problem, being how old Aaron is. Said that all boys at his age and younger experiment, and he was just too young to understand that this was unacceptable behavior and plan to correct that now that he is now in stable LDS environment.

“However he still refused to refrain from doing so, even after they had asked Aaron not to do it. Only to come home yesterday from the store buying last-minute Halloween stuff, now that everything including the candy was on sale. Only to find Aaron and their neighbor’s kid naked on the couch with their penises in their son Mikes mouth. That was the last straw. It didn’t matter that their son Mike tried to tell them that it was his fault and not Aaron's. And that their father said they could as long as they did so when their alone in their room or their mother wasn’t home. Let’s just say when his wife found out, it didn’t go so well.

“She clearly stated temporary or not she wanted Aaron out of their house. They would have dropped his things off at the party last night but insisted I told them that I needed time to find a home for him until his mother can take him. However when I called them telling them that you have asked to extend his visit; She insisted that it would be best if Aaron didn’t come back at all, having me pickup his things.

“There was no reasoning with her, with her husband and son out of the house. Even after I told her I had warned her that this might happen and explained to her that this nothing more then boys getting acquainted. Only making the situation worst as she told me she was going to report my actions to their LDS bishops to have me excommunicated and the State fire me for not disclosing these issues.

“The funny thing is as all know, I am not LDS, I am a born again Catholic Christian, and my husband is Jewish, but neither are we a firm believer in either religion. Plus the fact I had just explained to you I was quitting my job so my husband and I could move to England before the money runs out.

“So I told her to go right ahead and do it. That I was retiring in few weeks as that my husband and I were moving and have been offered better jobs than having to listen to people like her, and will be informing the state to revoke her license as foster parents, because this was her 9th foster kid that we have had to remove for abandonment and neglect. That I have spoken to her husband and her son Mike on several occasion telling me, that she was only doing it for the money and it made her look good in her church.

“My husband I would have taken Aaron into our home until we could find a suitable one for him until his mother was well enough to have him home, but I have my hands full with moving, and my own three boys and this little one at my feet. I felt it would be better since you have done so in the past, and if his mother agrees that Aaron should be here, with his brother where his mother can visit him anytime she feels like it.

“I have spoken with her doctors, and they say that she is doing well, that they feel being here was far better then her being at the hospital; that if she continues her therapy as an outpatient, she could be well enough to go home by Thanksgiving which is only three weeks away.

“It would take the state at least that, or longer to find a suitable home for him. Being as it is the holidays, meaning they would have no choice but too put him in a group home for boys or facility for troubled teens. You and I both know that Aaron doesn’t belong in places like that. Which is why I have thought this would be the best place for him, knowing his father and what he is capable of doing.

“But that’s been solved thanks to you, now I don’t have to worry about him being without caring parents over the holidays. And with…” She was cut off hearing a loud chopper overhead as everyone looked out on the front porch seeing. A military chopper landing right next to the house where Stringum had his personal chopper pad.

Grandma said. “Ok, there is no way in hell you are going to get me on that thing. I rather wait until Landan comes and gets me.”

Dad said. “That could be a while considering he is in Salt Lake taking down last nights Halloween party.”

Grandma said. “Then I have no choice but to wait unless I can hitch ride with Eric’s and Aaron’s caseworker.”

My caseworkers said. “But I am not going that direction anytime soon Mrs. Shepherd. If you think for one minute that I am going to miss out seeing the look on your face when my husband and them come back from the bank confirming my and Mr. Rothwell’s suspicions that some divine power thinks that my family should move here and be apart of whatever Mr. Rothwell is doing. Think again, I have seen the house, I have been told so far that job is real. And even if it wasn’t; I would take Mr. Rothwell’s offer, in heartbeat and so would my husband.

“And if they do come back and verify that money is real, I am going to climb on that chopper and go on a major shopping trip; providing I can talk his oldest daughter Kerry to babysitting my boys, including my little one. Then when I come back I and my husband are going to spend the night in our new house and have hot and wild sex even if we have to do it on the floor of our new bedroom; knowing that my boys are safe in Mr. and Mrs. Rothwell hands.

“So if you want off this godforsaken mountain you have two choices, get on the chopper or wait until someone can come and get you, but as you have heard the canyon is a mess and the main roads are in bad shape after the storm last night.”

My caseworker gasped as I followed her eyes to the reason why, she handed Dad her baby and her and her boys ran off the porch in their stocking feet, and then threw her self at one of the men coming off the chopper, watching him swing her and the boys around. Jennie said sneaking up behind us. “I am guessing they know him?”

Dad said. “Let’s go find out, I am curious as hell right now, considering I thought she said her oldest son was serving somewhere back east.” Dad and everyone joined us as having Frosty follow my mother and Aaron.

I could hear Sparky barking and howling like a coyote and pawing at the window inside Jared’s room. Dad gave a heavy sigh telling Jared to go ahead and let him out. Considering soon or later my mother's dog my dog was going to meet. Mom said. “Make sure you take off your socks so you don’t track mud and dirt on my clean carpets.”

Mom hated shoes in the house, she hated, even more, when wore socks outside, getting them dirty and tracking dirt into the house and ruining another pair of socks. She cringed seeing the dirt on the bottoms of Jared’s and finding a hole in them near the toes. She looked down at the rests of ours. Mumbling more socks to the lists. It was a battle she was never going to win, but Mom was determined to win it regardless.

We made our way towards the chopper as my caseworker came towards us beaming with pride said. “Gang, meet my son Charlie.” We all shook hands with him noticing the likeness now that we have met him and his father and three younger brothers, Dale, Todd and Larry, all noticing the same green eyes like their mother, and the strong tall build like their father, and the same dark brown hair, a common trait they all shared, other then the fact all the boys had a crew cut or more of peach fuzz quality. A quality neither Aaron I cared for, but it was in look of today’s style.

Dad said. “It's a little bit cold out here for us standing in our stocking feet, let's go inside where it’s warm so we can get acquainted.” Sparky tore out of the house like he had been shot out of a cannon, and ran around the house as fast as his little legs can carry him. Frosty barked and wined, as he hid behind Aaron and my mother.

My mother leaned down and petted him and removed his leash, said. “Its ok boy he just wants to get acquainted with you. I think you two will be great friends. Mr. Rothwell, you don’t mind if I let Frosty off his leash so he Sparky can run for a while?”

Dad said. “Why would I mind, it’s his home too for a while. Besides its safe enough now that storm has cleared out, and they have this whole mountain to run free to their heart's content; which way we have a doggie door so we humans that don’t have thick fur don’t freeze our asses off. You boys once you secured the chopper come inside while the ladies finish up getting ready, while we wait for Mrs. Holliman’s husband to return from the…. Never mind, I believe that’s them, all I ask is you boys remove your shoes, so my wife doesn’t have hessy fit.” I looked up the road seeing Stringum car, in the distance, which meant that our main road had been cleared.

They nodded we all went inside; I could hear Sparky and Frosty barking like crazy, around the side of the house. Dad and I went to find out what the hell they were barking at as it sounded like they had both tree’d the Olsen’s cat. However, the moment we arrived seeing the two barking and pawing at the ground under the shed where Dad keeps his yard tools.

Watching Dad get on his hands and knees and peer under there having me pull back the dogs. Dad said. “I can’t see a dang thing. Get me the flash light son.” I ran into the house Mom yelled at me as Ignored her seeing my wet dirty footprints and grabbed the flashlight. I ran out having my brothers follow me asking what was going on. I said. “The dogs treed Olsen’s cat under the tool shed.”

Dad said. “It’s not their cat, I just saw him running towards their home as if hell itself was chasing him.” I handed Dad the flashlight and got on the ground with him as the dogs were going nuts. Dad shined the light in the hole, said. “I can’t see any…” he crawled back a few inches; said. “Jared. Go get Dr. Sars and Dora I believe they are over at Earls Olsen’s getting ready to go with the women that want to go shopping. Jason, take Frosty and Sparky into the house and keep and eye on them.”

They both asked what he saw, Dad said. “We have a little unhappy visitor who got left behind from last nights party.” They all wanted to look so Dad let them telling them to stay back, so the little demon couldn’t touch them. Dr. Sars and Dora came running with Jared telling them how cool it is.

Dr. Sars said. “Cool is not exactly the word I would use. Now take your brothers into the house, I don’t want you getting hurt.”

The boys looked at Dad as he said. “Go on, do what they ask. Make sure no one comes out here.”

Dr. Sars and Dora got down on the ground, unladylike taking the flashlight, said. “So we have a little friend, who got left behind when the sun came up; which is bad for him but good for us, because we can use him to our advantage.”

Dad said. “Wait, what? Please don’t tell me you plan to capture him and make him talk.”

Dora said. “Precisely what we have in mind, what better way then to find out what Crawford is doing; now shoe the both of you, give us the room we needed to work.”

Dad said turning. “How are you going to get him out of there and where are you going to take him?”

Dr. Sars said. “Somewhere where we won’t be disturbed and where he can’t escape. He’s harmless when the suns up which is why you can see him; he nothing more than small angry child right now. Now get.” Dad and I each gave each other a knuckle bump as he and I agreed it was so cool.

Well, it was, until Mom found out, but for the moment she was a bit pissed as she looked at me and Dad from head to toe covered in dirt and mud. Told us to strip down to our boxers outside on the porch, and march ourselves into the house and get ourselves cleaned up.  Mom was Mom you better do what she said our pay the consequences.

Stringum had pulled up to the house by the time me and Dad cleaned our selves up and joined everyone in the living room finding several pairs of military boots sitting along the wall… Did I mention how Mom hated shoes in the house? Now apparently socks were now on her hit list finding several pairs of dirty socks in the garbage can.

Mom said handing Dad the broom and me the dustpan. Pointing to the dirt and mud we boys have put on her clean entryway and on to her carpets. “Now you boys know the rules when it comes to my carpets. I expect them cleaned by the time we ladies get back from town. Now then that everyone is here, and busting at the gut what happened down at the bank?”
