Chapter 261-2
The Word No
Part 3
I had come along ways, where
people like me would not have been able to fathom the possibilities of what I
could do when the need arises; like today walking in between two different
realty’s. I put my big boy pants on and then dug in hard facing the problem I
was having. Jeff had me picture myself locked in the church basement, and
working my way out using this string as my key, which only made me work harder.
I gasped when the string in my hand turned hard as metal and white and smooth
as a bone. Jeff smiled at me as I turned the key hearing the lock click and
watching me pull it open. Jeff stepped out and everyone cheered, begging me to
free them.
Jeff walked up and down the cells telling them to be patient, telling them that
he wanted to start searching for the men that they had discussed but to wait
outside until we were all free. Once I had opened each of the cells, freeing
his friends. They waited for me to take them outside. However, Jeff refused to
go first even though he seemed to be the one in charge. Then again him being in
charge meant it was his job to make sure everyone got out safely. I won’t lie
to you, I was scared stiff not wanting to go anywhere near those ghouls that
were upstairs waiting for me to become part of their menu. However I wasn’t
alone anymore, I had Jeff friends to help me.
There were 6 spirits in total plus Jeff. Jeff stayed having me take the first
one telling them not let go of my hand for any reason until they were outside
and have them wait until all of us were free. It did no good to look at my
watch, yet old habits die hard. Not that it would give me the correct time. It
was unreadable watching the hands move around the face as if time was moving
quickly as if I was setting the clock. Not even the pushbutton light feature
worked on it not that didn’t need the light or my flashlight as I gathered up
my things placing everything into my satchel over my right shoulder and took
the first person by the hand as we made it up the stairs.
I didn’t need my flashlight being as the person with me became my light source.
I slipped through the doorway at the top of the stairs the same way I had
entered it. Except for this time I had a ride along as they held my hand and I
pulled them through the field they couldn’t go through without my help. I
didn’t understand the meaning of why, other then the fact it had to do with
being alive where in my friends Jeff case, none of his friends here weren’t
live, nor had a physical body where I did and was still very much attached to
it, and I planned on keeping it that way as long as possible.
I cringed in fear the moment I saw the flesh-eating monsters and the bodies of
men that were feed upon that had been in charge of watching Mr. Tate and
Antonio and their friends locked up. None of them paid much attention to me,
but the moment they saw who was with me, they gave a loud shriek as if the
light was causing them great pain. Watching them back away from us, it made
total sense the reason why they feared my friends, which was because evil hates
the light, they hate what it represents.
The problem being was I wouldn’t be returning with someone. Meaning once
I got them outside, I would be alone again making the same trip back and forth
until everyone was free from this horrible place.
One by one as I went back and forth among the dead, among the ghouls that
wanted me dead and most of all wanting to rip the flesh off my bones. However
the moment they were free they didn’t thank me, plus they didn’t stick around
like they were told to do watching the first 4 quickly leave as they blinked
out of my sight without so much as a thank you. I knew Jeff had given them
strict instruction that they were to wait outside until everyone was free. Yet
the moment they were free they vanished. They didn’t care that I shouted at
them or grew angry by disobeying Jeff’s orders. They just considered me nothing
more than a mere mortal even though this mere mortal risked his life to save
them.
Jeff was quite angered by it the moment I told him through our special link
what had happened. He said to let him worry about it since I had done my part
as asked. He seemed calm but a scary calm as I made my last trip with him and
the last 3 spirits. Now that I had made it across successfully outside with the
others; it seemed to me like it was some sort of test, letting the others go
first and see what they do when Jeff wasn’t there to lead them; or to see if it
was possible for me to get through the entrapment's with his friends without
setting off the booby traps, or all of thee above.
Jeff and his three remaining pals waited on the other side of the door that led
to their prison. All I had to do was walk each one through the door as they
waited for me, knowing they couldn’t go anywhere without me, other them examine
the room where the ghouls and bodies were hanging above the rafters. The ghouls
shrieked and huddled tight in the corners of the room as my friends walked
among them investigating the carnage, which I had no intention of doing. My goal
was to get everyone outside as quickly as possible, not linger inside giving
those monsters a chance to make a meal out of me.
Jeff had other plans the moment I had freed the remainder of his friends, for
the moment the last one was waiting inside the dark passageway waiting for me
to pull him through the door. Jeff
merrily touched one the hanging bodies and in a blink of an eye that body was
gone, in its place was nothing but white dust like a fine powder. He did the
same to each of the bodies in the room. He looked at the quivering ghouls in
the corner and said something in words that sound odd to me but familiar to me.
Watching them turn to stone and crumble slowly. When he was done he took my
hand said. “Let’s get the hell out of here. Its time we did something about our
two bad boys, those things just told me where they had been taken to and the
person or persons responsible for this mess.”
I couldn’t have agreed more with that statement. I was surprised to see his
three remaining friends still outside waiting when the others had fled the
scene altogether. Jeff acted as if wasn’t a big deal, yet something said it
was. Yet I had done my part… and I was quite pleased with myself for doing
something that I wouldn’t have normally. Jeff nodded to his three companions
without words or without words I could hear. Watching them each take-up
positions around the building and seeing them raise their arms and hands into
the air. At first, nothing happened than all of a sudden the lighting from the
dark sky above struck the building and then in an instant a red hot blaze
consumed it.
I could see through the flames many dark shadows screeching in anger and pain
as it was burning. Jeff and his friends lowered their arms and watching his
three friends vanish inside the fire. I could see the sorrow on his face as if
he wanted to go with them. He returned to my side and said. “Thanks for saving
me and my friends, they will help us locate the people that had done this.
“I already have a lead on Mr. Tate and Antonio, lucky for us they haven’t
gotten far, but they have managed to escape with their friends. I have sent my
friends after them telling them to do whatever it takes for them to stop them
until Tony’s team can take care of them. It is time we send them somewhere
where they will no longer be a problem. We can not risk them escaping again,
for right now they are planning your demises which we can not allow to happen,
which is why I have sent my friends to delay them.
“Now then you must return so you can awaken and we will work together in
tracking down these men. Tell Stringum I am sorry, but Mr. Tate and Antonio and
several others that were with them will not be returning to be questioned. Its
past time we take off the kid’s gloves. They have earned their reward and
punishment of meeting the devil that they so worship. They have broken not only
the laws that govern you but also the laws of the spirit world by creating
demons of their own and bring them into this world and use them for their own
purposes.
“This is beyond the dark arts of sorcery and witchcraft, this beyond spell’s
that can render mortals and spirits useless. It is my job to make sure that
those that are responsible are brought to Justus. That everything has its
consequences. Now its time to fight, and it time we hunt down those that are
responsible.”
Jeff smiled at me as he waved his hand finding ourselves back in my bedroom. It
was hard to believe seeing myself sleeping as everyone was pacing about the
room, in a frantic trying to wake me. It stated I was gone far too long. Even
the sky had turned to dusk indicating that I had been gone for several hours,
which only seemed like minutes or an hour. Jeff smiled at me as if this was a
joke or something as he touched me on the forehead.
The next thing I knew I gave a hard gasp as my body came out of deep sleep. A
moment later Mom and Dad were there at my side laughing and crying at the same
time. Dad picked me up and held me against him as Mom hugged me kissing every
inch of my head and cheeks. Jeff calmly went over to Tony and Stringum; he
didn’t apologize for there was nothing to apologize for…He said. “Are you ready
to hunt some bad guys?” Stringum smiled gave a big arm pump and Tony gave him a
ghostly high five. That hit nothing but air.
At last, Dad released me only to have Mom bring me to her chest and hug the
stuffing’s out of me. Dr. Sars was busy looking over at my notebook and
conferring with Dora and their guests. It took me a minute to realize that they
had been with me the entire time, as they said. “I told you he was fine, and it
would take as long as it takes. Now let the boy go so his wife Rhoda can tend
to him.” She said unconcerned about how long I had been gone or how long I had
been sleeping. However, I felt completely drained, as if I had missed several
nights of sleep.
Mom gave me a few more kisses and several more great big hugs before she was
willing to release me. The moment I stood up, my feet wobbled and I lost my
balance. Mom caught me and said. “Nate’s done for the day he can barely walk.”
I looked over at Stringum, Tony and Jeff. I shook my head no and said. “No Mom,
I am fine, just need a minute to catch my breath and wash this crap off me and
perhaps have something to eat because I am starving as if I hadn’t eaten
anything in days.”
Mom looked at me taking her hand lifting my chin to look me straight in the
face. She growled angrily and said. “You're tired as hell, I have half a mind
to tranq you and make you sleep until I am convinced you are fine.”
I smiled at her and brushed her hair with my fingers, said. “You can’t and you
know it, Mom. I am needed and we don’t have time for me to spend a day or two
in bed.” She gave a heavy sigh and a nod. Stating I was right, we didn’t have
the luxury of time. Instead, she helped Rhoda to the waiting tub and climbed in
with her as the water and bubble bath, filled up around us. I knew better than
to bathe myself, not that I minded and not that they needed any help, but again
we didn’t have the luxury of time on our side.
The bath felt soothing, as my eyes drooped being so relaxed and tired. I was so
tired I didn’t feel them bathe me or when the water had been drained as they
dried me off. I overheard parts of a conversation with Dad and Mom discussing
how they could take some of the burdens off my shoulders. I came to a start
said. “I am fine, there is nothing you can do to stop me, however I willing to
accept as much help as I can get.”
Dad stated that he and many of the fathers had already had volunteered. Mom
gave a heavy sigh stating that she too just became part of my work crew. Not
that she had enough on her plate, taking care of us, as it was. But Mom was Mom
and there was nothing I could do to stop her.
I dug deep into my reserves finding them empty or on the verge as I stood up
out of the tub and put on a robe; nearly falling over twice having Rhoda catch
me as I thanked her said. “I can do it.” She blinked at me as if I had just
slapped her. I pulled her into a kiss and kissed her letting her go as I let
her help me to the table where my steak sandwich had been remade with tons of
French fries covered in cheese just the way I like them. I had barely put the
second bit into my mouth when Stringum and Tony joined me to bring over the
map, having me point to where Jeff and his friends had been captured.
Jeff had left us to start his hunt for our bad guys. Stringum seemed impatient
as he watched me eat having me give details of what I have seen and what I had
done. Getting veg answers, telling him to ask Jeff about it. I had learned long
ago that there was something’s I wasn’t allowed to talk about.
However I wanted
nothing more to tell them, but I was cautioned not too until such a time when
this was no longer important. Like now, not that anyone would believe me. I knew
if I said anything that most people would think I was either crazy or had a
great imagination or both. I will leave it up to you to decide, and if choose
to believe that it nothing but my imagination. Then we will put it to a test
when you met Jeff on the other side then ask him about it.
I kept eating as I listened to everything around me. Stringum had set up his
command center in my room, as Dad tested the CB radio talking to Jenny and her
team giving an ETA on when Tony would be joining them. Considering he was the
only one besides Stringum as team members that could see him and communicate
with Jeff.
However, they needed me to be with Jeff to be a relay between Stringum and Tony
in the field because I was the only one that could see the beyond the shadows
and the traps they have set to capture us and Tony couldn’t see me like he
could with Jeff and visa versa in regards to Stringum. They argued about
sending me personally. Mom and Dad said absolutely not and Jeff agreed, not
wanting to me in any more danger then I was already in. Not even Tony was
willing to let me come along, even if I was not within range for anyone to see
me.
Jeff wanted the people bad that had captured him and put him in a prison. He
also wanted the people responsible for the murders of children we had seen
recently. I had no doubt if my father or my mother had succeeded in killing me,
that Jeff would be haunting them this very day.
Stringum asked if I was finished as I wiped my mouth with my napkin and
finished off my orange soda, again stating his impatience’s. Jeff gave me time
to recover as he took his time informing me through our link that when I was
ready he was ready. I gave a nod and got up from the table watching Mom and
Rhoda clean up all the empty dishes scattered around the room and placed them
on the food cart and placed it out into the hall. I made my way over to the map
and sat down on the floor accepting my colored pencils, and closed my eyes
contacting Jeff through our link telling him I was ready to begin.
