Being Neighborly

Part 1

What is being a good neighbor? I question that as Landan drops me off at Randy’s house. With two pans of lasagna and garlic bread and a big bowl of green salad, sending Kirk, Eli and Greg home as well as Kirk's two friends Mark and Erik; the two boy’s Martin and Ricky to my house; with their portion as well as the rest of our friends. Kirk and everyone gave me a fist bump Eli didn’t mind everyone else didn’t mind the fact they weren’t invited when the invention was just me and my family which didn’t include my two husbands or my wife Rhoda. I knew I was safe, even safer with two of my honor guard at my side Tony and some other dude I didn’t know.

The door opened for us and I was told not to move further into the house to remain in the entryway with the one honor guard I didn’t know. Tony said it was standard procedure since what had happened at resent attack. Telling Randy’s Mom as she told them she understood, stating they won’t find any members that want to harm us here. Tony said. “Let’s hope not Mrs. Walters.” Randy took the pan of lasagna from me adding it to his and the garlic bread and salad, placing it on the counter for now while they searched the house.

Mrs. Victoria Walters. Was average height 5-9 and about the same height as her son Randy and her two daughters Holly and Candus with light brown hair tied into an attractive bun, brown hazels eyes and strong chin and nose with a slight upward flare at the edges. She wore a nice flower dress with a slight lower v neck lower then my adoptive Mom would wear that indicated she had large breasts and the right curves that said she wasn’t fat or overly skinny; standing on toothpick legs, wearing black flat shoes that she was going somewhere and were comfortable. Everything said she was just heading out the door noticing her purse on the counter and wearing fresh makeup, and small hoop teardrop earrings with blue stones in the middle.

I took my shoes off out of habit while my bodyguard searched the house. She looked at us as I did so putting them by the door, like most people they pretend not to notice as she looked away. I quickly said. “It’s our custom to remove our shoes when we enter a home if we are staying longer then a quick visit. Randy informed me that my three brothers were spending the night.”

His two brothers were home downstairs playing and his two sisters were somewhere in the house hearing them arguing how pathetic each of them was, Randy said this was a normal day at home. Once they realized that we here, they came out of their rooms, allowing my bodyguard to search the house. Victoria gave me a warm smile while Holly sneered at me. Once he had cleared the house he said. “Nate. If any sign of trouble just hit the panic button and well be here in a flash.” I nodded and they left me to my doom.

Randy said. “Mom we brought dinner as he had placed it on the counter and grabbed him and me a soda from the fridge, said. “We had extra and Chef Mack told Nate for us take it home rather than put it in cooler over the weekend.”

She said. “Yes I called your mother and she said it would be an excellent idea since I stated that I wanted to get to know you, your brothers first, before allowing my sons to spend the night at your house. I am not sure I and my husband feels about you and your friends about being nudists. Yet in truth, I imagine that our religion and what we practices would also seem strange to a lot of people considering we have to hide in the shadows.”

I nodded. “So in a sense, you are curious about our lifestyle?” She laughed and I told her she ask me anything she liked.

She lifted the tinfoil and stuck her finger into the sauce which was still warm and tasted it telling us it tasted good. Randy said. “Nate made it, and we all pitched in.” She looked at me and Randy.

She said. “You're telling me that Nate made all this and you helped. I thought you told me all you did was washed dishes and clean a dining room and the kitchen.”

Randy said. “Yes and no Mom. We do that job, but we are also being trained to do other jobs so we won’t have to be stuck with being the dish crew forever. Nate’s our boss, and is the Chef; right now he’s training us all as pre-prep cooks.”

She said. “Really, a 16-year-old boy is your boss?” Randy nodded and she said. “Well, that’s something I wouldn’t believe possible.”

Randy said. “Its true Mom, he has the jacket to prove it. You can even call Chef Mack who is the Head Chef now since Mr. Tate hired Chef Phillips to be his personal Chef until he can find a new one.”

Randy handed her his bag and my bag that had our uniforms in it plus my knife set. Randy explained the hierarchy of the kitchen, as he and his mother led me to the living room. Candus took a seat next me wanting to hear the details While Holly gave an angry sigh and returned to her room. I had a feeling though she was eavesdropping on our conversation, what sister or brother wouldn’t?

His mother said after playing 20 questions. “After. Randy gives you a grand tour, I am afraid we have a very modest home unlike yours.”

I said. “Home is where the heart is, Just because I and my family are rich and most of my friends doesn’t mean that I have the right to treat people differently because their not.”

She blinked at me stating that I had caught her unguarded. “Nate you surprise me we were told that you and your family are snobs because you’re rich.”

I shook my head. “I wouldn’t listen to rumors. My Mom and Dad taught me just because we have money doesn’t mean I don’t need to learn responsibility and having to work like everyone else. I didn’t get that job by flashing my money around; I had to earn it just like everyone else.”

She blinked at me questioning me, as explained I was training to be a Chef all my life until it came to a complete stop because of the car accident leaving me in a wheelchair, but now that I was healed I could proceed with my career goal instead of being stuck being as a bookkeeper. Randy said it was true.

She said. “I can see that, which only makes me more curious about you and your family.”

I said. “You can ask me anything you like. Just because we are nudists and are new converts to the only true church hiding in the shadows. Doesn’t mean we don’t like or believe in the same things. We like sex, we like sharing ourselves with people that believe in the same things we do. Being a nudist just means we aren’t shy if you know what I mean?”

She giggled. “Is that invitation to have sex with me, and the members of my family?”

I said. “In a blunt way, yes.”

She said. “Well get yourself settled you in I wasn’t expecting you boys until after three, I was about to go to run some quick errands. I’ll be gone a couple hours, is there anything I need to do this lasagna or just keep it warm for dinner?”

I said. “No just cook it for an hour or so, you can put it in the fridge, for now, the reasons it's still warm is because I had just made it. It was for the building crew I work for, for their dinner tonight; something fast and easy like a homemade TV dinner where you just put in the oven and serve it.”

She said. “Just the way I like it, simple and even better when I don’t have prepare a meal; I have no doubt your family and friends enjoy having you over. Have you been invited to visit them yet since the social?”

I said. “Nope not a one, you’re the first since we moved here. Eli and I were supposed to spend the weekend with Mr. Tate, but due to the recent events, he has postponed our visit until next weekend. So no you’re the first; providing we even make the cut after what has happened. We hold no grudges against you or your family for the recent advents. We are just saddened, those other members of our church as shunned us. Yet you made it clear last night that you haven’t done so by having your daughter apologize to us for her behavior last night and her actions.”

She said. “Yes I see how that could happen and I promise you, Nate, that we have no intention of harming you or making you feel uncomfortable. I am saddened too for the way our members of our church has treated you and your family, you seem like a nice kid that I would be good for my son Randy to have a friend like you. Randy dear, go ahead and get Nate settled in. I’ll put your boy’s uniforms washer so you can have them nice and clean for Monday.”

She got up and picked up her purse, and said. “Make your self at home I’ll back as quick as I can. No needed to worry about being shy around us dear, and Holly will be spending the night at a friends house.”

The phone rang and his mother picked it up and yelled for Holly telling it was for her. Holly came out of room with her backpack and little makeup case and her pillow that I could see a hair dryer and curling iron image inside her pillow as she put them on the counter as she answered the phone. Her Mom waited to state she was going to drop Holly off while she ran some errands.

Holly screamed at the phone. “What do you mean no? It’s not my fault that they are here at my house. My parents invited them to dinner, I didn’t. So you’re saying you won’t be my friends because of that. Fine!” And slammed down the phone, she said. “Mom you are making the wrong choice about aligning yourselves with the Carrions. All my friends have just told me I am no longer friends uninvited me to their slumber party, because of what you are doing. Worst of all I just found out that there is a strong possibility that my sister had sex with those two Niger boys.”

Randy whispered in my ear that news travels fast here being a small town, I knew exactly what he meant coming from a small town myself, it all said he had very nosy neighbors knowing that someone had tipped them off I was here.

Candus came into the room said. “Oh its more than possibility Holly, because I had done so last night, finding I really like dark chocolate, and I have to say they were both yummy.”

Holly said. “Yew gross, you make we want to bathe.”

Her mother said. “You can either apologize or stay in your room. They are my friends that you are insulting.”

She said. “Fine!” And stomped off to her room and slammed the door.

Randy asked. “Are sure Nate she is not related to your sister?”

I said. “Possibly?” Knowing Kirk must have told him that I was adopted and told them about my biological family. It wasn’t a big deal considering it was common knowledge and weren’t hiding the fact I was adopted and we have or had an open adoption.

Randy gave me the grand tour as Candus followed us as their mother went out the back door the opened into a two car garage. There wasn’t a lot to see, compared to our cabin. It was the standard home a modest comfortable living room with kitchen / dining room 4 bedrooms and a master bedroom, plus a basement that contained a modest family room and his brothers bedroom with two single beds, and a hot tub that was built flush with the floor with lots of frosted glass letting the light in and a few indoor plants like a solarium.

The family room was modest with all the toys that said so, A fairly nice mismatch couch and a love seat and couple soft cushion chairs facing with a large screen TV sitting on top a large 3 foot bookcases laying long ways containing videos some of them I recognized being the ones that Mr. Tate makes plus some normal kid and adult movies the rest were all games and a surround sound speakers. Seeing cables along the top of the walls that led into the room where the floor hot tub was big enough for 6 people. The fireplace was against the east wall un-lit with plenty of firewood waiting to be burned and coal bucket.

Randy quickly introduced his two brothers to me. George and Philip Jr. named after his Dad who was the same age as Jonathon and George was the same age as Jason, which meant they both go to the same school together. They both had light brown hair like the rest of their family and the same hazel brown eyes. Everything was an almost identical likeness to their brother Randy, other than their height wearing shorts and generic Haynes t-shirts one blue and the other red with short sleeves and no pockets and white short white socks.

They each shook my hand and returned to playing their video game asking me how soon my brothers would be here. I said. “Somewhere around 3 or four, but if you want you can call them I am sure they would love to play video games with you,”

Philip asked Randy if they could. Randy shrugged his shoulders and I picked up the phone that was nearby on the wall. Mom and Dad weren’t home yet the only one home was Dotty, Eli, and Greg. And my two younger brothers, which meant Jared had gone to work with Dad. Dotty said she call Landan and call Mom and tell her and thanked me for the lasagna.

I said. “I thought you would like to spend time with your family and not having to cook tonight.” She told me I was an angel and we hung up the phone. I told the boys they were on the way.

Candus said. “See they are not as cruel as everyone thinks they are or what Holly says.” They both eyed me up and down and gave me a silly grin as their sister whispered something in each of their ears. George asked me if my brothers like to play Twister. Told them it was their favorite game and mine, lend down whispered low enough only for them to hear me, “more so naked twister.”

I knew what they liked according to Kirk… and their mother had already paved the way stating clearly that was acceptable behavior. Plus I had learned from personal experience with the High Bishop and his three boys… and like I have said before it wasn’t anything new to us. Even the videos stated clearly that Mr. Tate had them participate in his films. Randy had said as much so the videos meant their parents kept them as keepsakes as trophies. It only made my determination to bring Mr. Tate down stronger.

I watched George go to the bookshelf and pulled out the game twister as his brother Phil put the Video game away and went upstairs to wait for them with his brother right behind them hear their sister Holly ask them what they were doing and hearing her groan. "Oh God No.”
