Fitting In

Part 3

I was already familiar with most of the paperwork because of my bookkeeping, so it didn’t take me long to get organized, the hard part was I had to remain mostly seated and use my crutches to get around the office in case Kirk and his pals saw me walking around the office. Even more so when the trucks came as I wheeled my butt out there to meet the driver freezing my a*s off as I waited for them to meet me on the dock as I stood up using my pain in the a*s crutches because in truth I really didn’t need them.

I was already taking a risk by not doing the two-foot shuffle, but then again the idea was I was supposed to be getting stronger each day. I cursed silently as I had to be the injured boy as the driver gave me and Chef Mack weird looks, knowing that I could walk just as good as everyone else when the drivers remembered me from the day before.

Once I had checked off each of the items and signed for it. The boys worked their a*s off putting it away. Eli said it was easier because of how much help we had, plus the storeroom and the coolers were almost bone dry made it so they didn’t have to rotate. Chef Mack wasn’t happy because it seemed too easy for them, and he wanted them to learn a hard lesson. So he took Greg, Eli, and Ricky out of the equation and put them in the kitchen doing prep work that I would normally be doing. Knowing it would take them more time to do it then would me or any of his trained employees.

Eli was getting a nice taste what is like cutting up tons of vegetables that seemed endless. He only cut himself a half dozen times; using cheap knives not the ones that we normally use for ourselves. Kirk and his friends were soaked to the bone and sore from all the heavy lifting and working in the dish room. We waited for them to quit, telling us they had enough and concede that Ricky and Martin didn’t have this easy life that they thought they had.

I had run out of stuff to do in the office now that it was the cleanest it had ever been according to Chef Mack. So he had me work on my homework instead as we waited for the last of the deliveries. It was almost 5 pm before we all stopped for our dinner break. I watched our four boys nearly dragging themselves to the table with a tray of food in their hands. They looked like drowned rats from head to toe as they gave a sigh of relief as they sat down. They asked Ricky and Martin if it is like this every day.

They both smiled, Martin said. “Yes, but today is considered a light day.” They gasped as they looked at Eli and I as if they were joking we both shook our heads no. Not wanting to give them the idea that today and Saturday is the hardest days, more so when we haven’t worked more than one day to really know for sure. To them, I was the one that had the easy job sitting in the office doing paperwork and checking off the truck orders. In a way they were right, but they weren’t the ones sitting in a wheelchair all freaking day.

Kirk asked how many people do they feed every day here. Mack said close to 500… three times daily which equaled 1500 meals total. Kirk and his pals groaned thinking that was a lot of meals. I stated that was kind of small compared to school lunch which they prepare only one meal for the entire school avenges close to that for one meal. Kirk asked how I knew that. I smiled. “I worked in lunchrooms most of my life up until the accident. Just because I am rich doesn’t mean I have never worked a day in my life. I wasn’t always rich, In fact, the truth be told I was dirt poor until the Carrions adopted me.” Kirk said he figured that part out because I didn’t look like my brother John (Jared) or my parents.

Eli said. “No da, even I knew that the first time I met them.”

Kirk asked. “How long had you lived with the Carrions? And what happened to your real parents?”

I said. “A very long story that I don’t like to talk about, perhaps when you come over to my house and pass the mustard test and earned that right I would tell you.” I knew I had him and his friends eating out of the palm of my hand. They wanted to play 20 questions, but I didn’t trust them enough, and I knew it would lead to more questions.

Every detail about my life I needed to question why and what they would do with the information. I had already stated the obvious; because Mom and Dad told me not to hide the fact I was adopted because I was too hard to disguise myself every day without someone discovering who I was. After all, Crawford knew that I had been adopted by the Carrions, the State knew I had been adopted by the Carrions. That the Rothwell’s had moved to Saint George giving me up to the State and replaced into another foster home, well at least that’s what says on paper and if anyone dug deep enough that is what they would find. Considering everything else was classified and sealed in some undercover vault.

Even Chef Mack was curious, but was smart enough not to say anything, and smiled when the last truck arrived as the driver came into the dining room, which meant it was time to go back to work. The boys groaned when they had to get up and groaned, even more, when they saw the last truck carrying tons of meat and frozen products. Chef Phillips said once they had finished the truck and the dinner dishes we could go home. He pulled me into the office after I had checked everything off asking me if that wise telling everyone I was adopted.

I said. “No, but Mom and Dad said that people would find out once they see me with them that I don’t look like them. Unless I wear a mask everywhere I went. Plus they have covered everything with huge paper trail… that if they went snooping all they would find is that I was in 19 foster homes and that they changed my name so people wouldn’t associate me with my parents; which would lead to another long story, which I won’t go into until we know its safe to discuss it. Let’s just say I have had a really rough life.”

He laughed. “Anyone that has been that many foster homes would have a rough life.”

I said. “You don’t even know the half of it too why I was in those 19 foster homes in the first place. If you met my father you would understand, lets just he isn’t a very nice man, and why I had learned to fight like I did the other night.”

He gave me a blank stare and said. “We’ll talk more about it once those supper jocks are out of our play pin.” He said putting his arm around my shoulders. “I too didn’t have a nice father, he was an alcoholic and a drug addict. I am assuming yours was too.”

I shook my head no he frowned as I said, “Just mean and abusive that he has tried to kill me more times then I can count.”

He nodded and said. “Something I know all about. By the way, good work today, this office has never been so clean. Chef Phillips will be impressed when comes back on Wednesday.” He opened the door and asked if I would like to help his wife why the little mice do all the work. I nodded and he found me a stool sit on she smiled at me and kissed me on the cheek. I smiled back as I helped her make up the salads as her prep cook did all the heavy stuff so I wouldn’t get caught moving around while our Super Jocks worked around us.

Once the dishes were done and the line dwindled down to nothing, Chef Mack released us as we all punched out 6:30 and changed our work clothes. Eli smiled as he put on his last pair of dry socks and slipped on his sneakers, as we looked down seeing wet foot-marks where the four boys sat down in wet clothes that when they took off their jackets they rang them out as Chef Mack told them to take them home and wash them for Wednesday. That they can keep their shoes and the jackets once they completed their week’s worth of work.

Landon was waiting for us outside as he asked where too. Kirk said he and his friends were going home with me and Eli; that their parents would pick them up when they come home from work. Landon nodded and drove us home. He smiled as they sloshed slogging wet into the limo, tired and sore. I watched the boy’s gaps as we stopped at each of the checkpoints. Only long enough to see who was inside and taking down their names. Landon told the main guard that their parents were coming to pick them up to call when they arrive. They were gasping as they saw all the cabins being built and as Eli stated that Stringum and us owned all this land, and they didn’t like trespasser.

Kick asked why and what we were hiding. I said. “People that try too kill us or don’t understand our way of life. I should tell you, up front that we are nudists.”

Kirk and his friends laughed, Kirk said. “Yea right, nudists are people that live in foreign countries where it is warm and sunny. Not here in Utah known as a Mormon State where the temperature is a*s cold during the winter.”

I said. “Oh, you would be surprised.” I knew they didn’t believe me so I just said. “Just don’t say I didn’t warn you,” watching them roll their eyes at me. When we made it through the last gate, they gasped seeing how big our cabins are, even more so when they saw mine and Bishop Earls that was really starting to take shape now that it had the windows in it and the lights were on.

Landon opened the door to let us out as he placed my wheelchair on the porch and helped me too it. He didn’t complain he simply acted like it was part of the service. Yet I knew he too couldn’t wait until we wouldn’t need to play the injured boy anymore. He said. “Call me if you need me, boys.” And pulled out and went down the road, to put it into the garage and head for home, he too was living in one of the trailers as he was waiting for his cabin to be built.

Eli opened the door and Greg pushed me inside the house, as Sparky ran to us barking wanting attention right now before I did anything else. I smiled seeing Jason on the floor with another boy, playing video games with Timothy and his sister Samantha and Jonathon, they were naked with towels over their shoulders, Kirk gasped. “Daren, what the hell are you doing here?”

He turned around. “Playing video games with my new best friends; Mom said I could spend the night because she had to work a double shift and you weren’t coming home until 9, that way she wouldn’t have to worry about me starving to death until you come home.”

Kirk looked at me was about to ask when Mom came out of her room. She too was completely naked. She quickly put on robe and then asked me if I told my friends that we were nudist. I rolled my eyes and said. “Of course I did.” And introduced them to her as she shook hands with them. Telling them she just made some fresh hot chocolate and it’s on the stove.

She said. “You boys look like your soaking wet if you wouldn’t mind removing your shoes, before coming in.” They did as she cringed seeing their wet footprints she said. “And your socks, I don’t want you to get my carpet wet. Then once he shows you his room you can change out of those clothes and I’ll put them in the washer so when your parents come up to get you, you’ll have dry clothes to wear. Kirk your more than welcome to spend the night since your brother is, You can call your mother so she knows where you are. You boys as well are more than welcome also.”

They nodded as Kirk brother said. “Wait until you see his room and the pool,” then went back too playing his game.” Mom smiled at me, asking me how my day went.

I said. “Busy and boring.”

Eli groaned. “For him… not for us Mrs. Carrion.”

Mom said. “Well then, I am sorry to tell you, boys, that your wives won’t be home tonight, they have been asked to dine with the High Bishop and his wife. They want to go over the dance details on Friday at the church, in honor of the New High Priestess.”

Eli said. “Just great, I have been looking forward to one of those massages.”

Mom said. “What am I chopped liver?”

Eli cringed. “No offense Mrs. Carrion your not my wife even though you are very beautiful and do give an excellent massage. I would prefer her to do it.”

Mom said. “I completely understand, But if you still want one all you have to do is ask.” She walked back down the hall. I told the boys to follow me. Kirk and his friends were still speechless as they looked around our huge living room and kitchen.

I said. “Let’s go to my room so you boys can get out of those wet clothes. Then you can call your parents and I can give you the grand tour.”

They nodded as they followed me with Sparky right behind me. They gasped the moment I opened my bedroom door and I smiled. I put my wheelchair away and used my crutches. I gave them the grand tour of my room. They asked if this was all mine. I nodded “I told you my tub was better than the one we used last night.” I handed them each waist robe as Eli started a fire; and placed their wet work shoes next to it so they could dry.

Eli changed into a robe and I gave the boys each pair of swim trunks. They declined them stating they were fine until their clothes were done. Eli picked up their wet clothes as I followed them slowly. I was fine the way I was nice and warm and dry. Eli explained that we had 5 master bedrooms that looked like mine and 3 regular rooms that don’t have their own bathroom or tub.

Once we arrived at the laundry room Eli put their clothes in the washer. Kirk said his Mom usually does the laundry stating it was little weird that Eli and I washed our own clothes. I explained that Eli and I, as well as our wives, share the chores, even though we have a maid. That this was a pretty big house and that we share it with three families. The Earls, the Vincent and plus Tony and Jenny, we make number four. Kirk said. “All this time we thought you guys owned this one cabin.”

I said. “Nope, the big one, once it is built, will be the Earls, the other two cabins next to us is were Jake lives and his mother is our housekeeper, Mr. West and his family share it with them, the Benson's live in the other one until their cabin is built, and fourth cabin we are told will be finished sometime this week belongs to Adams Dad Mr. Olson… for now, they are living in the new trailer park. The big monster cabins above us on the hill Belongs to Stringum, The High Bishop, and Judge Grayson.

“Stringum travels a lot so he and his wife the High Priestess usually stay here with us or in one of the nicer trailers when have a lot of guests over. Since it is just the three of them, her daughters are attending BYU and have taken in a foster kid named Arthur. His mentally retarded and is home schooled for now. We may be all rich, but we like having lots of guests so we stay together, mostly because we're all nudists and because we are rich we like our privacy. Because people are cruel to us because we have money, and even though we spend tons of money trying to help people like yourselves, but people still consider us snobs.

“Chef Philips and his boys also are waiting to have their cabin built which I am told will be just as big or bigger then Earls. Right now they are living in one of the nicer trailers for convince until theirs is built.” They nodded as they followed me out to the pool. They gasped at the size of it, I noticed the slide was up and Jake, Adam as well as Mr. Wests boys Zack and Terry were with Chad and his sister Cindy were lazing about in the hot tub.

They too were all naked. Proving what I said that we were all nudist seeing the Kirk and his friends blush. When they noticed Cindy and Jenny; I asked where Tony was and she said he was at work with Mr. Earl and his with wife and Jared is with Dad down at the store. I nodded and reintroduced my new friends, as they tried to look way seeing the two girls completely naked, which said they didn’t have sex a lot with girls.

Eli and the two Philip boys hung up their robes and joined them said they were more than welcome to join them. They nodded they would after they had talked to their parents. I showed them the phone and left them to it. Kirk asked where I was going, I said. “Back to my room so I can finish my homework.”

Kirk said something to his friends and they gave him a fist bump as he followed me down the hall to my room. He said. “I can call my Mom later since she was working late, and my brother is already staying the night.” I didn’t say anything as Sparky followed us back into my room as he closed the door and locked it.
