Lies

Lies

A Poem by Shelby Baker

will watch those lies slid off your  tongue like turpentine but don't think you're getting away with them

I might just be remembering them and waiting for the day to drop the bomb

I might just be remembering them and waiting for the day to drop the bomb

Very sharp and smartly written, loved it

Indeed lies are like "turpentine" they strip bare the truth, it is rancid and deplorable, YUP that is a lie alright.

I like the use of "turpentine." Turpentine can be used as a thinner, thus subtracting substance from an original form. It is also used in protective coating on wood furnishings. The poem is brief, palpable, and truthful.

I like the use of the word turpentine. It cleans away grease has a noxious but some how pleasant odour! It is a solvent too and for those reasons it seems to work well with lies. Lies are used to grease your way out they are noxious in nature but can "smell" so appealing. Love to be there when the bomb drops!

I like the image of lies being like "turpentine" it very descriptive-- it makes the experience of deceit a distasteful experience for both involved and not just the person getting lied to-- you know like even if the person who's doing the lying doesn't realize their hurting themselves they still are hurting themselves.
Also the image of "drop the bomb" creates a powerful and explosive image of someones deceit coming back to haunt them someday. That's just really cool!

It is small, but it still really means something. It's slippery, like turpentine on the tongue (isn't that from a country song?), just like lies keep coming and coming once you start with them. This was a very good piece, I really enjoyed it.
