The Quiet

The Quiet

A Poem by Shelly Braen

Watch my wings,

Spread in soft embarrassment,

I am quiet,

For words can only say,

Only what is said,

I am quiet,

I whisper with my eyes,

I do not need a voice,

I am quiet,

With these hands,

Why would I part my lips?

With these ears,

Why would my tongue form?

With this heart,

Why would I speak?

I need not yell,

For my eyes,

Punctuate marvelously,

If you care to look,

My book is never open,

Because I have no agenda,

I am gentle,

I am quiet.
