Obvious

Obvious

A Poem by Shelly Braen

Illusions willfully follow that guilt,

Via chased tales,

Sexual discord is my enema,

And the smashing of beautiful things,

We all end up working for a thousand different Hitlers,

Under the guise of kingdom come,

White cats are cursed,

And I am the future of backward,

What if apples bled?

Walk through a garden of nails,

And tear up your journal,

Remember what you thought,

And forget what you know,

Tell me, how should I captivate you?

Obsession is a pass time,

In a pickled aorta,

When the clouds are silhouettes on the night sky,

I panic that I might fall in,

What do you see when you look at me?

Stick my tongue to the skin of an asp,

Let us breathe,

And I’ll help myself.

This is some of the most shocking writing I have read on the Cafe this year. There are so many lines that explode off the page. Two that stuck out to me are "We all end up working for a thousand different Hitlers," and "Tell me, how should I captivate you?"

The lead into the Hitler line is surreal, yet powerful. It makes sense in the way you deliver it. Its strength grows as you introduce lines that speak of the end of days. I think that the bit that talks about the white cat provides speculation about what one must be like working for the machine.

All of that leads to the line that summed up the piece to me "Tell me, how should I captivate you?" It as almost if everything is a show that creates this surreal world that makes sense only in reverse.

This is very powerful writing and I enjoyed reading it.

Hardly obvious in its content, it is a breathtaking journey through human psyche and it inability to fall away from line..It's dark, it's surreal, it's absolutely mind blowing..A wonderfully strong evocative work..Very well written..Loved reading this

My mind has be placed into rapture with these words! Their very flow breathes a deeply within the soul. Of course the bleeding apple is held must high, for it is something I understand quite well. By far this creation is a masterpiece upon the page.
