So Tired

So Tired

A Poem by Shelly Braen

I open my eyes

The sunlight reaches through the blinds

warming my cold skin and irises

The windows to my soul grow heavy

I pull the blanket tight

And wish the day away

Turning in a sigh

Not another

No, no more counting

I am broken

Don’t fix me

Sun, turn your back and walk away

The King of clocks

He has departed

Leaving behind

Only the passing hours

What do I need the light for

When time is all I have?

My mouth is coated in betrayal

And my voice thin with sleep

No matter

Why should I speak

When there are no words?

No words to make a difference

I go through the motions

Careful not to look at the pendulum

The only thing left of a love

That was not a love at all
