SanctuaryA Poem by Shelly BraenThe candles dance on my alabaster, For once, I am golden, I quietly step amongst stone angels, They are in tears, And bow their heads in my wake, A single rose, As I drip in rain upon marble, Hiding behind my wet hair, So that only saints can see, Hush, they will never tell, Judas of a world, And woe of a day, I run my fingers along pew mahogany, And kiss three nails, The black cat follows me in, On his haunches in curiosity, Heavens and Hells sing, So beautiful are they together, One holds the tongue of man, While the other of divinity, To know I bleed through the meridian, I bow to one knee, Heaven nor Hell will see me beg, Men’s tongue and eyes have me flogged, Their thoughts have me hung, And I seek sanctuary amongst ghosts, And fall upon my side, Exposing my vulnerable left, To the whispers of cool touch, To put out the many fires within, To hold my right hand on the lilies, And my left upon the thorns, Kyrie Eleison © 2010 Shelly Braen |
