Song of the Night Walker

Song of the Night Walker

A Poem by Jason Grey
"

A star cast to earth, forsaken and lonely, asks the moon for guidance.

"

A sun set
A moon rise
A star falls
Kissing the earth

Evening shadows
Dance their way into Darkness.
Bearing room for soles to tread.

Bare feet,
Tip toe into the moonlight.

Angelic fingers drift among fireflies.

The moon calls out
“Walk my child, for the night is yours

Shake off the evening light
Cast away the setting sun
And sing

Sing to the stars
From which you came
Sing to your brothers
Who you left behind

Sing your songs
Until the earth sings with you
Then I shall listen

Then
You will rejoin your brothers”

In tears, he cries out

“Mother, how can I sing
When my soul aches?

When my heart has fallen from my chest
And my eyes yearn for the heavens
I ask, how can I sing?

Cast to this earth
Alone
Can you not see my pain?
Can you not hear my cries?

Do you not realize?
This earth is silent
She does not sing”

“Child”
The moon whispers,
“She is not silent.

Can you not feel her suffering?
Can you not see her tears?

She weeps.

She weeps
For each fallen tree,

For each wilting flower,
For each river
That no longer flows,

She weeps
For each star
That falls from the sky
Did you believe you were the first?”

A silence
The young star had
Never heard before

Fell upon
The Night.

Quietly,

A voice rose to the Night.
And it sang.
