Winter Rose

Winter Rose

A Poem by Jason Grey
"

I spoke to a rose who found it interesting to bloom in snow. This is it's story.

"

        Buffeted by icy winds

Probing every crevice

Chilling to the core

Beauty trapped under ice

Said to be out of time

Too early and

Out of place

Crimson on a white canvas

Light petals raining

Dripping onto a wet snow

Winds carry the scarlet crumbs away

Nosey broken nubs remain

Peaking out of the slush

Their color sapped

Snow capped thorns and

Crumpled leaves linger

Awaiting warmer times

Through the ice and snow

Through the wind

The rose remains

Because that’s the thing about winter roses

We survive

Wow, great imagery throughout the whole poem, truly a beautiful write. And the message at the end made me see the poem in a whole new way. Like the broken are the roses, the winter is hard times. Lovely poem!

As I've said in many reviews before, I'm a sucker for imagery and this has plenty of it. I love the concept and imagery of the winter rose, but the last two lines I feel give the poem all new meaning (which may or may not have been the intent. I'd like to think it was).
I also love your diction. I like words, and I feel you are one who knows how to arrange them in fantastic ways. It was a very enjoyable read. Thanx for writing.

This is a beautiful piece. Well penned. I loved these lines.

Said to be out of time
Too early and
Out of place
Crimson on a white canvas

The imagery in these lines offer a compelling contrast. Well done.

This is like watching the rose's struggle for survival. Moments "with" the rose were well-captured in this piece.

I dig this. The colors stand out on the white page and the white canvas you have painted. Really good, man. Can't wait to read more.

I like the concept of the winter rose as it is compared to a person who survives the cold weather and trials of winter!
Well done!
