You and I

You and I

A Poem by Shelby

My love for you will never end,

Though you are dead and gone

My ache for you must live on.

One day, when the earth swallows me up,

They will say my pain has ended.

They are wrong.

My shattered heart will be

Carried on.

In the flesh of my children

And the ashes of my body

Will my loss be held and spread

And everyone will taste of my blood.

But,

Should an afterlife exist

I will hold you in my arms

And pain will release itself from my breast.

We will be,

You and I,

Just you and I.
