Escape Artist

Escape Artist

A Poem by Sheila Marie Carr

There is a portal, that leads me through a door

To escape the ugliness, that seeks through the pores

I slip into darkness in the corner of my mind

Waiting for freedom or some great devine

To take me away and release me from reality

I don't want to end up, another suicide fatality

Hyperventilating, suffering, and trying to breathe

I'm conscious and aware that life is decieving me

Trying to evade the artificialness of humanity

While clinging on, to the brink of my sanity

To disappear, slip away and never be missed

Is the ultimate goal of the greatest Escape Artist

Ingenious, metaphoric and subtly sad. The theme of escapism prevades every aspect of the poem. All the more gives it a worthy and poignant read.
