A Glimpse of Abuse

A Glimpse of Abuse

A Poem by Sheila Marie Carr

The very first time, he said it was a mistake

As I looked in the mirror, at my swollen face

The speck in my eye, the black and blue

Look what you made me, do to you

He said he was sorry, it wouldn't happen again

It did...A life of abuse had begin

This was love, so he told me so

A cycle of abuse, thats the way it goes

Imagine being seventeen

A young girl full of hopes and dreams

Only to end up at forty-two

Still in a world, of hate and abuse

Too afraid to leave, too afraid to stay

Living on the edge of death each day

This just a glimpse, in a life of abuse

You would be shocked, if you knew the whole truth

I have been here and left for dead
But I was lucky and was found.
Abuse is a horrible feeling to live with.
I came from phyiscal and verbal abuse both.

It's a horrible world out there to live in and abuse makes it ten times worse.
For everytime you hear the words "If you tell someone I will hurt you worse"
It makes you not want to tell someone. So you keep it bottled up.
Oh! If I knew then what I know now I could have never been a victim.

Noy only women get abused men do as well. It all hurts the same.
I am that one person that thinks one person can make a difference in the world.
I think more people should come forward, i know how scared they are to come forward.
But don't let someone bully you by threatening you like that.
They are worried they will get the crap beat out of them.
That is Fine that is what they NEED! to show them what they did to you.

Abuse hurts verbal or Phyiscal, don't let someone bully you just because that
abuser thinks he will get the crap beat out of him. He/she deserves it.

I thank you for bringing this piece out it shows courage and strength.

i really hope that you left. he has no right to hurt you no right at all. i was a molestation victim when i was younger traped by a man i had once trusted to keep me safe. someone i thought loved me...he didnt. take it from someone who knows only you have the power to set yourself free. you are not alone and though you may feel like it you never will be. you are strong you just have to believe it.

i've been trapped in this before, not by choice, by someone else's, & it is a cycle. its so easy to let it become the norm, what you deserve. but nobody deserves to be treated like this. this is a powerful, intense write. very honest & thought-provoking.

This really opens my eyes to how much a human being can suffer at the hands of a cruel and nasty person who wishes to control and bully their victim, i applaud your honesty and strength of character in rising above this adversity, nice write though very sad.
