A Glimpse of AbuseA Poem by Sheila Marie CarrThe very first time, he said it was a mistake As I looked in the mirror, at my swollen face The speck in my eye, the black and blue Look what you made me, do to you
He said he was sorry, it wouldn't happen again It did...A life of abuse had begin This was love, so he told me so A cycle of abuse, thats the way it goes
Imagine being seventeen A young girl full of hopes and dreams Only to end up at forty-two Still in a world, of hate and abuse
Too afraid to leave, too afraid to stay Living on the edge of death each day This just a glimpse, in a life of abuse You would be shocked, if you knew the whole truth
