Approval

This is just ramblings that needed to come off my chest and happen to come out in rhyme...

I have spent my life looking for aproval,

From family, friends, even strangers,

There comes a time in every life,

Where approval can actually mean danger.

 

A time when You become so consumed,

In being what everyone else wants you to,

That the person that you used to be,

Is not at all like the new you.

 

When do you decide to say enough,

That people must finally just accept,

That you are only you,

You can't be what everyone expects...

 

You're not perfect.

 

I have spent my life in search of blessings,

A hint that I made someone smile,

As I searched and severed up laughs,

The true me waisted away all the while.

 

I can't take this skeleton of what once was,

That is now my only truth,

For as I strained to please them all,

I Drained away my youth.

 

Now so young and yet feeling old,

I finally take my stand,

I will no longer serve your goals,

Or follow your demands.

 

I'll find out who I am...

 

It's time to let it go,

Let it reast in peace,

I can't be what everyone wants,

I can only be me.

 

But who is me?...

I know it isn't very good but this one wasn't meant to be it was just writing to get some things out of my system... I am always open for critique but am not opening this up for rating....ever....=) Thanks for reading all the same! =)

I will just speak to the theme - it is one I recognize from my past, something I struggled with early on. Maybe we all face this as we run the gauntlet of peer pressure growing up, old tapes in our heads from parents and preachers, and who knows what. I hear you working it through as you write and I'm cheering you on......
