Selfish Love

Selfish Love

A Poem by L.G. Knight

Don’t come at me like you’re my friend

Where the hell were you way back when?

When I needed diapers, clothes and food?

Back then there was no trace of you.

Now you think you have the right to be there?

Look at me with love say you "always cared"?

Like all those years ment nothing at all,

When you weren’t there to catch me when I’d fall.

So don’t stand there and look me right in the eyes

And sugar coat your pathetic lies

You’ll never make me believe, you ever really cared

When you missed out on all those moments we COULD have shared

When in all those years you never called or showed your face

All I see when I look at you is a disgrace

I’ll give you a chance though it may be insane

But I won’t open myself enough to feel pain

I won’t let myself come to care too much

And be hurt when you walk away with your selfish love
