My Best Friend

My Best Friend

A Poem by L.G. Knight

You were my best Friend,

My one true confidant,

I loved you with everything,

Then in a second it was gone.

I tried my best to hold on,

To all the wonderful times,

But alas M'dear,

They were stolen by your lies.

You were my best friend,

My one true confidant,

But it only took one second,

For you to take my heart and be gone.

I searched myself for a remnant,

Of what I once felt,

I searched your eyes for repentance,

For all the pain you dealt.

But in all my searching,

I just couldn't find,

Not one little hint lurking,

Of the people we were at that time.

Sometimes I wish I could go back,

With the knowledge in my head,

But I'd probably change the past,

And make new mistakes instead.

It would change who I've become,

I might not like who I would be,

With all I've overcome,

I think I would like to stay this me.

You were my best friend,

My one true confident,

And it's because you went,

I'm the person I've become.
