The Dream

The Dream

A Poem by L.G. Knight

I dreamed one night a dream so clear
It stood out like stars at night
And like the stars my dream was marred
By the rising sun's light

A dream of love and wonder
And fighting the good fight
But when I woke the feeling went under
A cloud that faded the light

I wonder now what did I dream
And How was it that I felt
For the cloud brought rain and washed it away
With stinging little pelts

And though I have tried to recapture the feeling
It remains lost in the night
But one night soon I may stumble upon it
If I follow a star so bright

My little tale has taught me,
A very hard lesson learned
Next time I will capture the feeling
And put it down in words

I will lock it in never to forget
The happiness before the fear
So the clouds cannot cover the wonder
And the rising sun can't sear
